Ok, thanks so far. I have been doing more research and found a site called www.wirelessnetworkproducts.com which explains things. It has lots of antennas and bridges. They mention a parkervision card that can range up to one mile los. I see you can get notebook cards that allow external antennas that extend the range.
I suppose he could put an external antenna on a pole on his house. Then if he can't reach the house from the restaurant, with a notebook card, then he is looking at carrying an antenna with possibly another wireless access point that would then be plugged into the restaurant.
I guess the starting point is to get the wireless access point with the best antenna setup available along with a notebook card that has a plug in for an antenna. Then check his range to see what additional antennas and a bridge/wireless access point is needed to be added. He may not want to carry around too much stuff though.
I also saw where that company mentioned above also sells an access point for truckers. That may be an option. There may be an internet company around here that has some type of internet access coming from a tower in that town. It may be a cheaper or better alternative to his home internet service. I will check into it.
Thanks for everything. I am off to get ready for this evening. Happy and safe New Year to all. |
