Re: Simpler way to set up versalink as dumb modem

Hi,

I tried your instruction. But when I get to step 3 to point the Westell to the Dlink router by inputting 192.168.0.1, the Westell modem says "Address is not part of the subnet address".

Thanks for the help.

Re: How to use my Linksys wireless router with my 327w

I was wondering if this was possible. I want to use my versalink as a modem and wireless. But, I want it to connect wirelessly to a WAP in another room to extend the range of the wireless connection. Can I hook a Linksys WRT54G up to my PC, make all the settings, disconnect it, and then plug it in in another room, not connected to a computer to extend my range? I want to be able to use it as a sort of repeater. Is that possible?

Re: IMPORTANT - Enter Modem MAC address in Linksys

Hello,

I was trying to set my Westell D90-327W15-06 to bridge mode and could not get the Linksys Router (WRT54G) to dial out. I tried every post here and I ran into a wall. I talked to two Verizon techs and the second one was a genius. It turns out that Verizon requires the modems MAC address to vaildate the connection.

Therefore, in order to use their Automatic Configuration - DHCP connection, the Westell's MAC address (from the sticker on its bottom) needs to be entered into the Linksys configuration page under MAC address clone. Now the Verizon network 'sees' the modem's MAC through the Linksys router. Now everything works great!!!!

Bottom Line: Don't forget to put in the MAC address.

The simplist thing to do is call verizon tech support they will walk you through putting the 327 in bridge mode, it takes about 2 minutes.

hey, i know this is off topic, but i have a versalink 327w with verizon dsl. i want to use the versalink as just a dsl modem, instead of routing everything. i want to be able to use just my wan ip (71.101.x.x) and not have any routing like 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.47, how can i do this? please help me! i am a gamer and i want to have just the wan ip.

The Ethernet ports on the 327 are essentially LAN ports. However if we tweak a few setting in the 327, Port 1 can be used as a WAN port into which one can connect any modem using a CAT 5. By doing so we will be able to connect 3 other PC's to PORT 2, 3 and 4 and share the internet access & can connect using wireless as well

So, why do you want to use linksys?

Regards,
Amy

Problem: Constant reboots of the Versalink 327w while using BitTorrent.

Goal: Stop the constant reboots, by using the routing function of a spare router I have.

Setup:
I have a Versalink 327w combo unit. B90 Rev. E USA 12/2005
along with a D-Link DI-614+. I have read this entire thread and decided to try Method 2, to make the Versalink just a dumb DSL Modem, and have the DLink do all the routing, NAT, Authentication etc.

Current Configuration:
Versalink - Bridge mode, DHCP off, Private LAN on, IP set to 192.168.1.1 (default)
DLink - Dynamic WAN, DHCP On. IP set to 192.168.1.2.
Main PC: Static IP set to 192.168.1.10, Gateway set to 192.168.1.2, Primary DNS set to 192.168.1.2.

Results: DLink is successful in feeding off the Versalink, and the modem reboots have stopped! Yay! However this brought a new problem...

NAT fails in Azureus (BitTorrent), where it used to PASS. All trackers say NOT CONNECTABLE, when I used to be OK. Is there something I am missing on why this won't smoothly pass through? I have already port-forwarded 49155 on the DLink, in Virtual Server, Firewall and Applications. Heck even if I put main PC into the DMZ on the DLink, it does not fix the NAT.

Sorry for being so long, just trying to answer any questions upfront you might ask. Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

So, anyone have ideas about what is better? I have a Linksys BEFSX41 ver 2 router and the 327W modem. Right now I'm just using the 327W. Should I do the double firewall or just stick with the 327W as my main firewall/modem? Which is a better security solution? I've heard some good and some bad about the Linksys (firmware 1.52.10) and some bad about the 327W (firmware 3.2 latest release).

Thanks guys

This should work. Both the 327w and the linksys card are conforming to the same open standards.

Re: How to use my Linksys wireless router with my 327w

I have a question:
I have the westell 327W, and want to use the linksys which I used formerly as my WAP, for better reception.

I get changing the settings on my westell, but then it says to login to the linksys- how do I do that?

My westell is connected to 192.168.1.9... so where do I do change the settings for the linksys? How do I access it?

Thanks!

I have read all of the posts in this topic, but what I don't see is a post that addresses the newer or what I think is the newer C90-327W30-06, software version 03.07.00 which has totally different setup pages than the other 327W modem/routers. I sure would like to see how folks are hooking up their router to this newer version modem and making both work. What I run into is dropped connections like a lot of ohter folks. There isn't a private LAN setup in the newer version. I know this Westell modem really sux as I can tell. This Westell 327W is with Bellsouth not Verizon.

Okay, I have read over many of these procedures but I am not sure they cover what I want to do.

I have the Westell 327 wireless router in a classroom in our church. We have about 6 computers which connect to it wirelessly. No problems there.

We have another classroom in a separate building. The building is only located a few feet away from the classroom but the bricks and steel will not let the wireless system pass through. I need wireless in this building as well. So I purchased a Linksys wireless router which I want to use as an access point.

I am new to DSL but with my comcast cable I can simply plug the linksys router up to my US Robotics router and get an immediate wireless connection at two different locations in my home. But with the DSL modem router I cannot get an internet connection through the Linksys.

Keep in mind, I want to use both wireless connections. Is there a fix?

I have a problem with signal strength on my versalink. I have two versalinks and I am wondering if I would be able to use one of them as just an access point at the other end of my house using some sort of VLAN configuartion? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
