I dropped some thoughts on this in a blog most just now. It seems many providers are definitely taking a stand against peer to peer sharing. I think the sharing part is what really gets them up in arms. |

| reply to Emc1683 Well, still no luck here... No biggy really... Just irks me something fierce that they would block a site, if that is the case.
Other than this site, I have never had any problems with anything warez/BT/etc etc etc related. All p2p and BT progrmas have worked flawlessly for me.
O`well. I can live without this site (empornium), thats for sure. Hopefully that is the ONLY site that I run accross this problem with though....
Thanks for all the input/work though. |

| reply to ramsy F*&% A! Well at least he was honest with you. The tech reps here didn't say a thing.
Maybe you'd rather move to DSL. Bt is way too easy but it will probably loose some of its power soon enough. With all the filtering and MPAA lawsuits going on. |

| reply to Emc1683 got a hold of a tier 3 tech who seemed kind of pissed. he said they have started filtering on a "frame" level.. so what i understand is that it works against BT mainly since i'm on a central node for the city.. but hell i pay my $$$ a month..i want my access and he said that a few sites are blocked every once in while for one reason or another he wouldn't elaberate any.. thats all the info i could get.. oh well gotta go old school here now.. proxies and irc.. but i did love BT making life easy. and if any one reading this gets a "HTTP ERROR -1" on your torrent client.. forget it and go irc.. later folks |

| reply to Emc1683 That sucks! Sounds like you might have Sandvine going on down there. Can you confirm that certain torrents work fine and all others work like crap? Maybe they are testing a filter to do just what you suspect they are doing. It appears that in CU they tested Sandvine and it reduced all p2p to a crawl. Call and complain.
You can get to the website hosting the torrents though right? Cause that is the issue we are having. Maybe empornium is really high traffic and they chose simply to block it in areas where the traffic is bad to begin with. It makes sense bit torrent + pr0n oh no. But I won't care enough to find out until I see other sites that are blocked. Maybe Empornium is blocking this range of IPs from Insight due to some hack or something originating from near here. Seems more likely that is the case. |

| reply to qos1 i'm in southern indiana and have insightbb, what we can figure out here are that torrent sites that insight deams as haveing posible pirated material are being blocked. i can BT knoppix and other OS iso's but forget any other things such as anime or games. get a "http error -1" every time.. tried on my win'2003, winXP, Slack, Gentoo, Knoppix, and Ubunto boxes. if anyone knows how to get around this. drop a line;) |

| reply to Emc1683 Myself I really doubt that insight is blocking access to any sites...I have no doubt that they can and or have done traffic shaping on P2P in general...but blocking the site's I think would be an all time low that I think even insight is not capable of...Maybe the op should try and just do a fresh complete OS install and start from scratch...then see what's what.. |

| reply to Emc1683 I get the same thing as ripn except for my dns server.
This is the only site that I am aware of that does not work for me and apparently others in CU yet does for others. I have experienced other sites that have timed out, but is it the same issue or is just a coincidence. Kind of irks me. I cannot see why they would only block this one site. Other torrent sites load just fine. Maybe they just hate porn in CU even though it is their bread and butter
I couldn't care less about empornium.us, but I don't want to stumble upon a whole class of sites that time out and make me think they no longer exist. How many dead links on google searches were really dead? |

| reply to dinzy As I touched upon above. For testing purposes ( maybe I missed this above ) are you seeing this with just sites that contain torrent information? If so then we need to focus on that. Are there other non torrent sites giving you an issue? Do these sites use PHP? -- Test Your Security Cable DiagnosticsIggyz Blog ZoneAlarm Help |

| reply to Emc1683 I switched to 2 speakeasy DNS servers and flushdnsed and get the same error. I wonder what other sites are actually not getting through.
Can someone that can get through get the IP of the site? When I try to ping it it gives an IP of 64.235.252.242 just to try to rule out a DNS issue. Also a tracert would be helpful for those that can get there.

| reply to dinzy Assuming you have w2k/xp from the command line try an
nslookup www.empornium.us
and see what the name resolves to and we can compare that to ours...that will tell you if it a DNS problem or with a tracert that it might be a routing problem from your location... |

1 edit | reply to Emc1683 Your example always works fine for me. If your using IE and XP with SP2. I think sometimes it was problems displaying PHP content. Try clearing your cache. If using software for privacy settings. You might try lowering those as well. You could also check your IE settings. But I have no problems getting that site to work. You might want to edit the link or give a warning here in regards to it. I'm in no way offended by the content their.:D But others might not be so happy in that regard. This is supposed to be a family friendly site.
You could also try using other DNS IP. There is a recent thread in this forum in regards to how to do that.
For the truly paranoid. We could entertain the thought. That this might have to do with Insight blocking P2P in some way shape or form. -- Test Your Security Cable Diagnostics Iggyz Blog ZoneAlarm Help |
