I know the announcement was made some time ago but for all those interested you can download Microsoft's AntiSpyware app *now* from MSFT's website. |

2 edits | reply to apobull Thanks for providing a link. I wonder how much like the original Giant_AS this MS beta will be? I'm at a loss as to what to do just now. After all, I'm a paid up GIANT customer and the Giant app is running fine. I do appear to be getting updates. Yet I'm really curious about this new MS beta. I don't know if I dare have the beta and the original GIANT installed at the same time... -- "in flagrante delicto" |

Doesn't work on Win98/ME systems? Nice one Microsoft! Support for these O/S's is up to 2006 and they bring out an appication that doesn't run on an O/S that is still supported. Yeah, nice one Microsoft...
Maybe i should not compalin at being forced to spend £200 on WinXP so i can use all the latest apps. Yeah, right... Corrupt firm, nothing more nothing less!!! |

Since it is still in Beta, and Giant is working well for me, I'll stay with Giant. |

If I was running Giant I would just continue on with it. It's going to be fully supported so I would run it until it was time to renew and then see what options are available for upgrading or switching over. -- Write your questions down on the back of a $20 dollar bill and send them to me |

I only used the original Giant for a few days on my XP rig just to get a feel of it. Well, there are some differences that I have noticed right off the bat with the Microsoft beta.
1. Does not scan nearly as many files as the original. Don't have a concrete number, but it's in the tens of thousands. The program has been neutered.
2. In advanced options, File shredder is gone.
3. In advanced options, System Inoculation has been changed to Browser Hijack Restore, or it took it's place in the GUI.
I don't know exactly what is going on with the scanning process. It's definitely not scanning the number of files that the original Giant scanned. Have used both of the scan options with everything ticked, and my conclusion is the scanning process has been changed, but to what degree I don't know. |

I am sticking with what I have, the original Giant. I just recently got it and there seems little reason to do anything about changing to anything else, especially while MS's is still in beta form. It ain't broke, so I'm not going to try to fix it. |

Besides supported does not mean upgraded.
Also, there are many software packages from other vendors that do not work with 98/ME yet I see no complaining about these products. |

Hey, you better go tell Adobe your sad story too.
Bottom line, you are a whiner. Your OS is supported. Nobody promised you add on apps for free for life. Maybe give linux a ride. There are free versions and the users seem to share your opinions of who owes you what. |

Just tried the product, and am satisfied. It found things that Adaware, HijackThis, and SpybotS&D all missed. Before I removed the "threats", I opened up regedit to verify the specified keys did exist, and I verified the two corrupt file did exist. Sure enough, they both did.
Now earlier in the thread, one mentioned it found RealVNC to be a "threat". It did the same with me. However, in the description box, it does let you know..something along these lines.. "If you are using RealVNC in a commercial environment, or know its been installed, its not a threat. However, if you did not know its been installed, it should be considered a high threat." ...which can be considered a realistic assessment.
I just selected "Ignore" and went about my business removing the other two real threats. Running the scan a second time, realvnc doesnt pop up as a threat anymore. Problem solved.
Overall, based on my initial runs with it, I'd give it a thumbs up. -- Teamwork is a lot of people doing what I say. | irc.removed.us #dslr | Starband and DirecWay Certified Installer | Starband SRS m360 GE4 C4/S69 | Win2003/DualNIC | 802.11b | 3 leeching neighbors |
