In regard to video and the F@H GUI app, this is what I have come to understand, listening to some of the most knowledgeable on the FCF site:
Windows, even the latest version, still has some OpenGL issues. This is a Windows issue, not a F@H GUI client issue. Some video drivers are well written to work around Windows OpenGL issues. Some are not. If yours happen to be, you'll not have problems running the F@H GUI client, unless you have other issues with your computer. If your video driver doesn't handle Windows OpenGL issues well, you will likely have trouble running the F@H GUI client. This is not a fault of the F@H GUI client.
This is why, when someone has these problems folding, we ask if they are running the GUI. If so, we do ask them to try console. It's a reasonable troubleshooting measure. If running the console version proves to be stable when there have been issues running the GUI, it makes sense to assume the problem was a conflict between the video drivers and Windows OpenGL. If switching to the console version still doesn't produce stability, one really should look for problems with the computer, either hardware or software, take a methodical approach to finding and fixing the computer.
This is also why, when someone suggests switching to the console version from the GUI, it really doesn't help to chime in with a "The GUI has always worked for me." While it may well work for you, that doesn't mean it will for the individual having trouble.
I know some really like the GUI. If it won't work for you, however, running the console in combination with EM3 is a great alternative. -- Team Helix Forum - Join Us? |
