| ADSL in Spain
Hi there,
Can anybody help, can someone tell me how much ADSL is in Spain on a Telefonica line.
From what I can make out from the Telefonica site, it is 21.90/month, is this correct? Is that for a 512Kbps line and are there any startup charges? and if so what do you get, USB modem / router?
Thanks in advance,
Bill |

First off I need to know what part of Spain u will move, that's is important cos u could get better offers than Telefonica has. Actual offers in SPain
Telefonica: 512/128kbps for 39+TAX + landline rent 1Mb/300kbps for 75+tax 2Mb/300kbps for 120 and 4Mb/512 for 150+tax the good thing is it's available in everytwhere in SPain and they have English support, the bad things it uses proxies, Speed sucks
Jazztel (it's the one I'm using right now)
1Mb/300 kbps for 39+TAX + telefonica land line
Pro, Good speed, it's works kinda good, no proxies, Bad: It's not available in Everywhere, if it is not available in your zone they use the Telefonica's netowork so u would have the same offer than Telefonica www.jazztel.es
Servidores.com 1200/200kbps + VOIP free national Calls and 0.03 min to UK ( Europe) or the USA 39+TAX
Pro: Good speed, Works great, Fast path, it's naked DSL it means u will save the rental telefonica's landline. Bad: 18 months under contract, it's not available in Everywhere but it is in alot of places of Spain and they are working in more towns and cities of SPain everty year
www.servidores.com
YA.com
512/128 for 29.99+TAX 1Mb/300kbps+TAX for 33.95 2Mb/300kbps for 45+TAX and 4Mb/512kbps for 59+ TAX ( + telefonica's landline)
-all these prices are if u have your own modem/router -Not available in Everywhere -u will have to pay 35extra the first month -No contract -10 if u wanna quite -If it's not available in your zone u will be using the Telefonica's network so these prices will be more expensives
Tiscali Spain
320/160kbps 26.95 ( 24h) same Speed form 3pm to 8 am 23.95 640/160kbps 31.95 +tax "" """"""""" + free national phone for 34.95 Calls to UK for 0.08/min 1Mb/300bkps 36.95 + tax 2Mb/300kbps 59.95 + TAX
-it's not available in everywhere - Telefonica's landline needed
Openforyou
256/128 ADSL 19.95 512/128 ADSL 28.95 1024/300 ADSL 37.95 2048/300 99.95 ( taxex and landline) Not available in everywhere
Cable Ono
1Mb/150kbps for 39
I hope it helps you |

| reply to bill78uk Hi there,
Thanks for your prompt response.
I am based about halfway between Alicante and Torrevieja.
The reason I mentioned the 21.90/month was from here:
Which if from Telefonicas website. My Spanish isn't great but have I misinterpreted something or is there a catch with the link I found?
Thanks again.

| Hey Toro!
What infomation repository are you using to determine broadband availability in Spain? I would like to know my options before I move. For example Cadaques in the Costa Brava or other cities.
Thanks, nice to see support for Spain on this board! |

TheToro Premium join:2003-06-05 London, UK | Sorry Broadband in Cadaques sucks, no options there. If I were u I'd choose another place. Only in cities of more than 35k of people u will find good options in Broadband |

| Hi Toro Seems like you know a lot about ADSL in Spain. Since I am planning to move to Madrid I have a few questions about broadband there.
A few questions: which of the providers above are available in Madrid? how long will it generally take to deliver the connection after the order? which provider(s) has/have the best reputation? and finally: is broadband via cable available in Madrid?
Thank you very much for your time Vincent. |

Thanks again, Vincent. |

| reply to Vincent_B let me tell u there are a lot of options in MAdrid. YOu can choose ADSL, naked DSL , Cable, and PLC (BPL in the USA). Most of them u would be under contract, if u are gonna be around 18 or 19 months I would to servidores.com free landline data it means the line is only to voice, so 39+tax 1200/200 it will be upgrade to 2400/400kbps ( not sure to thje upload) VOIP will be available soon for no extra money, no limits call in SPain and 0.03 calls to Europe pr the USA. the worst part is you would be under contract for 18 months. Jazztel 1Mb/300kbps 39+tax+telefonica's landline (13 or 14 extra. I'm not sure if there contract even if ur are using your own modem/router
PLC is available in 50% of MAdrid city 1Mb/1Mb fot 39+tax no contract and they borrow u the PLC modem.
Cable Auna. if u only want internet 600/300kbps for 39 or 1Mb/300 for 45 i think there's not contract. Better offers with TV and phone but u would be under contract during 18 months 1/month rent cable modem
I think the SPanish ADSL works with PPPE I'm not sore. |

| reply to bill78uk Hi, Just found this Forum, great source of info, but it looks like ADSL in Spain is a mine-field.
I have an apartment in Spain (Nueva Andalusia) , near Marbella, and I am planning to work part time in Spain and for this I need Broadband.
I am currently using BT Broadband in the UK with a Netgear ADSL/Wireless/Router etc. I am Extremely happy with this survive and need to see the options available in Spain. If I can't get the same level of service, I can't split my work location.
Basic requirements are 512kbps, unlimited usage, and I currently have a Telefonica line installed. BT provide a line upgrade only option (they just provide a DSL splitter), and you provide the Modem/Router etc.
Thanks, in advance for any information.

| reply to PaulGButler Hello Paul, I have lived in spain for 4 years and it isn't really that big a deal fo ADSL. I currently live in Los Arqueros Urb. just up the ronda road and have had telefonica basic service (512/128) for the past year. It was difficult to get telefonica up there to begin with, but once it was up and running i haven't had any complaints except for real speeds of 430/100. I use a netgear wireless G router with a SPI firewall- as I get plenty of DOS attacks, you will have no problem setting up that router for use in spain. The options are pretty good nowadays and you can pick up a router/package for tiscali, terra, wanadoo, telefonica, etc at an opencor (close to where you are) or the El Corte Ingles. Mr. Toro seems high on Jazztel ( www.jazztel.es ) they have english too. I have heard others comment that they like jazztel and real speeds are better. Don't worry- plenty of good options overall for you. Spanishbob |

| reply to PaulGButler Paul, one other thing- you should look at getting Vonage service which works fantastic over your high speed internet. Vonage now offers a UK service- so it's great if you have to be phoning to UK lots- it acts as a local phone number in the UK. www.vonage.co.uk I use vonage canada and it operates as a local number in calgary- works so well i am absolutely beaming. spanishbob |
