Statics that aren't static! Just got off the phone with Team Data.
After a bit of back and forth to get to Tier 2, Gary tells me that on 1/18 they put in a new order when I re-upped and it assigned me a new static block.
He tells me there is nothing that he can do and no way to change it.
This is not acceptable. I'm paying quite a premium to get static IPs. Had I not called, I would have been paying $60 more per month, but I am now being told that every time I go to re-up, I will lose my current static block.
So, a fair warning to anyone else who's thinking of re-upping a static package. Make sure you do it when you aren't expecting to receive any important e-mail on any servers you are running on your statics, because they aren't really static.
Does anyone know if the state utility commission covers the DSL portion of SBC or are they only concerned with the POTS side of things because I plan to file a complaint.
I would be less upset if I had been given some fair warning that this were about to happen instead of just doing it, making me wait on hold for over 1/2 hour and then telling me that I'm SOL (and if I really am SOL, it seems pointless to make me use up valuable Tier 2 tech time.) |

Had Team Data been more helpful, I'd planned to post a never mind.
I'll keep anyone informed, but as it is, e-mails that were sent to me are now bouncing. I wasn't able to get through my corporate firewall. If I had some fair warning so I could make some changes, that would be great. |

| reply to Dennis In this week we have seen:
Static IP customers can't use the FreedomLink trial Static IP customers can't receive the additional IPs SBC's website says they can I remind you that static IP customers can't drop the static designation on login to reach other redbacks, but any dynmaic IP customer can use a static designation to connect through the static IP redback (an old issue, but possibly a tie-in to the FreedomLink issue)
After all this, someone is claiming that re-upping the $159 product for $99 for 12 months causes a new IP block to be issued.
I'm inclined to agree that it's stupid, but absolutely possible with the frigging idiots making policy decisions that involve static IP/"business" customers. |

My company has a T1 with SBC and late last year also put in the $99.95/month ADSL "static" package. Some of these statics are going to be put into use for some of our customers to use to upload huge data files to us and pull it out of the T1 bandwidth.
I can tell you that if our "statics" go away, we'll be looking at changing not just the DSL but our T1 and perhaps a branch office or two. Work got the DSL based on my recommendation. I'm not happy with my recommendation now.
If I'm screwed, so be it. But hopefully I can raise enough of a stink that no one else will be and particularly so that it won't bite the company I work for. |

So I wouldn't leave SBC over it. It's just stupid and wasteful on their part. |

However, there are a number of firewall rules that need to be touched in at least 4 locations because of this. That is a much larger pain than the dns entries because I can't change them myself.

However, my director has already been making rumblings about leaving SBC as it is. I mainly wanted to let anyone who is listening know that this could be an issue in the future that could end up being the straw that breaks the camels back for a corporate account that includes a number of remote offices. It is a less competive telecom world than it was a few short years ago, but in today's cut-throat market customer service can make a difference.
As to:
You're correct. I should have taken a few deep breaths after getting off the phone with Team Data. It is still an appalling way to treat someone who lost the one feature they are willing to pay 3 times a dynamic account for. |

Not to mention the fellow in PacBell territory who seemingly cannot get his $159 package lowered to $99. Maybe he'll be glad he can't once he hear's DyerUser 's incredible story. |

I had the same exact problem when I reupped and they pushed me from Deluze-S to PRO-S. My IP block changed and all hell broke loose with DNS, firewalls, etc.
After some SBCDirect magic after a call or two to TeamData, I was back on my old IP block. -- Six of one, 1,426/2,852 dozen of the other. |

 | I've also seen where people had a dynamic ip package from the days when you could rig it to use it as a static ip (it wasn't programmed to change.) When they re-upped that went away. It was a business customer and according to the BOSS notes, they called in about 30 times threating to sue, but of course they never got their "free" static ip back. |
