Re: Who uses the free McAfee Anti-virus that comes Another question... Ok, I see it recommended I use the FREE McAfee firewall instead of the Windows SP2 firewall. BUt I also have the Hardware Firewall on the Versalink 327 W Router Verizon sent me, so do I still need a more powerful firewall such as McAfee on my computer? Or do only people with Routers without the firewall feature need the better software firewall ?? |

However, a software firewall (with the exception of XPs) will block the outbound attempt and tell you that you have a problem. That is the main reason why I run a software firewall on all my PCs. -- Jim Anderson |

You have to get to the point of having an MSN Premium account and passport without downloading the MSN browser. I can't recall exactly how I did this but it is possible. After that you go to member services and download the McAfee. Maybe someone else recalls the details of getting the MSN account without the browser? |

 | I know what you mean about the Trojan virus, I had DSL only 2 weeks -with Router Firewall on Medium (although son shut if off a few times to play games -so could have happened then??) and we got that Troj Agent JR, -this was on other computer, with no software firewall at all. Well, I am off to download the McAfee Firewall on this computer now. Do the antivirus next week. We'll see how it goes. I did download the MSN browser, I don't care for it, too much pop ups , if it isnt'asking me to reset the time zone, some net passport thing is jumping up, I hate it! I put my MSN mail address in Outlook express so I dont have to use it, does most poeple NOT use the MSN feature, just curious. ?? |
