[DIRECTV] split a triple lnb signal

I just built a new house and had (2) RG6 cables run from my attic to a “home run” box in the laundry room. I should have run more. I was planning on having one attic cable reserved for a dish and the other for an OTA antenna. Each room’s (family room, master bedroom ,etc) cable hook up originates from the “home run” box. I also have a Directv triple lnb dish.

The installers hooked up two cables originating from the dish to each of the (2) cables in the attic. These connections then run down to the “home run” box, connect directly to the two room’s cables and then off to the two rooms that have the Directv receivers. There is also an extra RG6 cable running from the box to the family room intended to be used for the OTA signal.

My dilemma is I have no cable connections left in the attic to run an OTA antenna signal from the attic, to the box and off to my family room TV.

I have been reading about multi-switches, high-frequency splitters and all kinds of devices but I can’t figure out what will solve my problem.

In the end I would like one attic cable to transmit the Directv signal to the box, get split there and send the signal to the two rooms (MSB and family room) thus reserving the other attic cable for the OTA signal.

Any ideas?

Your solution is a couple of diplexers. I assume that one of the Directv receivers is in the family room. In the attic install a diplexer on the coax that goes to the family room. The diplexer has three connections, one 'common', one for Sat and one for Ant. Common goes to the line going to the family rooom, Ant is the antenna and the satellite connection is from the dish. In the family room install a second diplexer, common on the line from the attic, sat to the satellite receiver and Ant to the TV set.

Is the receiver in the family room an HD receiver ? Do you have just this one receiver currently ? How many receivers do you plan on having in the home (HD, Tivo, or standard)?

Basically, you feed your LNB's into this device as well as an OTA signal. It'll combine them, give them a little signal boost and send them on down the line.

Then use a diplexer to split the DBS signal and OTA signal and you're set. Kind of pricey. But sure beats ripping out the drywall or having cables dangle off the side of your house.

Terk and Eagle Aspen both make a 5x8 that can be had for $150 or less. You will need all 4 feeds from the lnb plus the antenna, and a source for power, it comes with an AC adapter. This will give all 8 ports access to all 3 satellites, and antenna signal. As said before you will need to split the antenna and sat signal with a diplexer at each tv location.
