| [Cable] PC TV Tuner Cards with Comcast Digital Cable
Based on what I can gather...in order for me to use a PC TV Tuner card with Comcast's Digital Cable Service, I must bypass the set-top box and input the cable directly into the Tuner card? Is that correct? That apparently also means that i will not be able to view or record encrypted digital channels on the PC. Is that correct? The main question I have is...can i use a regular tuner card such as the WinTV-PVR-500, even though it is apparently analog or NTSC only or do I need a tuner card that is digital or ATSC? If so, can anyone recommend a good one...i have also read that the lower channels on digital cable are probably analog and not digital, and the above 100 channels are digital and probably encrypted as well, so to this point there are no tuner cards available to view or record those channels. Is this all correct????? Thanks for any help |

| From what I've read on these, the new TV's with cable cards will replace the need for a digital set-top box. You still pay a fee for the cable card (which is provided by the cable co.) But eliminates the higher fee of the boxes. Its like they are building a digital cable box into the TV. Then have to get cards from cable provider or maybe get them to authorize yours. But this is so new most cable companies arent rolling it out yet. -- It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses. | sorry, read the question too fast. All tuner cards I've ever used could only receive the standard cable channels(analog). The "digital" channels are converted to analog by the digital cable box. You can, however, feed the output from the box to the tuner card, but have to change channels on the box. The tuner card will stay on 3 like a television. -- It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit It ! |

| Re: [Cable] PC TV Tuner Cards with Comcast Digital
I had a set up, with a Hauppauge PVR 250 and a comcast digital cable box. I used S-video out from the CB to the card. I used and IR blaster, (usb-uirt) to change the channels on the box. The software I use to control the IR, tv schedule is SageTV. Worked great, no problems recording channels above 100. I switched over to Directv and using the same setup, no problems. |

I have Comcast Digital Cable and Windows MCE.
I run the coax from the wall into the Motorola STB. Then coax from the STB to the tuner card on the PC (hauppauge pvr 250mce). From there I can watch/record tv on my computer. To watch it on my TV, I use an s-video cable running from the video card (xfx 6800) to the s-video input on the tv. With the mce remote I can change the channels on the cable box using an IR emitter. -- Formerly DSLWho |
