| [Help Me] I need help with my DLink DI-524
I am currently on cable modem internet provided by Videotron. When my cable is connected to the dlink which is connected to my network card in my computer, the internet keeps crashing ever so often. It times out several times ever hour. When the cable is connected directly into the computer, no problems are encountered.
I also have a problem with the detection the wireless network. My laptop does not detect the local area network. I'm not too sure what to do about this concidering I know nothing about routers. |

1 edit | If the dlink router WAN is set dynamic IP, might try setting it Static IP Address - its possible that may fix your Videotron connection.
For your wireless connection, might look at your Dlink's router LAN IP ((probably 192.168.0.1))and set that as gateway in windows networking tcp -then the the routers dhcp should get laptop ip going. |

Since you do not give any additional info, so nobody really can help you on this, I can only guess and suggest to enable 'SSID broadcasting' again.

| reply to quixx1337 Is this a recent install? Did you already do the 100 to 10 switch? (That is the single thing that kept me from getting up & running when I first had mine.)
If I don't reboot my whole network setup, My DI-524 will literally stay up for a month (maybe more?) at a time. I have everything setup as default w/ 128bit wep & that's it. (After the 100/10 switch mentioned above, of course). |

| reply to quixx1337 OK. When I was going through your many suggestions, I ended up facing an additional problem. After playing around with the ethernet cables several times, plugging the ISP directly into my computer, then plugging it back into the router and running the winipcfg to get the IP information to fill in for the router configurations, the status light on my router wouldnt turn green anymore. Then, randomly, around half an hour later, the light turned green again, but my internet still would not work when passing through the router. It refuses to even let me connect to 192.168.0.1 to access my DLink configurations. It says "detecting proxy settings" at the bottom of my browser window, followed by a "This page could not be found". I'm beggining to wonder if the router could possibly be defective. |

| "detecting proxy settings"
Don't why your light was out for certain other than the modem may have been re-syncing Would think if the browser window says detecting proxy that you may want to look in the browser connection configurations and make sure you're not set as proxy connect there. In IE Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN connection; No proxy settings, no Auto Detect checked. |

| reply to quixx1337 Even with those settings, the "status" light located on the DI-524 fails to turn on, and the internet does not function when going through the router. When my ISP is connected directly into the network card of my computer, the internet settings are identical to the internet settings of when the ISP goes through the router.
Therefor, my problems are the following : 1. The "status" light located on the router will not turn on. 2. My internet does not function when going through the router, though the settings are identical when the ISP is connected directly into my computer. |

| reply to quixx1337 Rule of thumb: Anytime you change something involving the WAN side, restart (power cycle) the broadband modem.
1. Change or Clone MAC address 2. Apply new firmware 3. Change WAN type 4. Change login information 5. Perform a factory default reset on the router 6. Lock the WAN port speed in Tools / Misc 7. Lock the WAN port speed in Tools / Misc 8. Lock the WAN port speed in Tools / Misc ... etcetera ...
Hope that helps.
By the way, did you ever try locking the WAN port speed in Tools / Misc to 10 Mbps as suggested by sandwidth? That seemed to be a likely one to me.
... if you try that, don't forget to reboot your modem.

| reply to quixx1337 Alright, I just tried setting the 10 Mbps in the tools > misc section. Unfortunately, nothing positive came of this besides the fact my "home" page appears when I open my browser, although anything done from there doesnt. No links/buttons on the home page will link me to an actual page, they all bring me to the no server detected page, as well as any link I type in the address bar. The only thing that works, is the home page when I open my browser. I restarted the router, restarted my modem, and it still wont work. Keep in mind that when my modem is connected directly into the computer, it works perfectly, but as soon as its connected to the router, nothing works.
Oh, and every time I startup my computer, an error message pops up saying "could not find LIBWLAN.DLL". Could this be at all related to the problem I am currently experiencing? |

What O/S is this? What network adapters?
Quite frankly, until you figure out that message, I wouldn't trouble shoot that particular computer any further. I'm assuming that's on the laptop? -- Robb Topolski http://www.funchords.com/ Hillsboro, Oregon USA |

| reply to quixx1337 Im on Windows ME, on my desktop (not the laptop) being the main computer connected to the router. My network adapter is a DLink DFE-530TX.
The problem I face regarding this Error message on startup, is that the router does not have a software installation and no where is the file LIBWLAN.DLL downloadable from the internet. |

| Muki,
What type of broadband connection do you have?
Something to try:
1. Hook the cables up. 2. *Unplug* the power to the router. 3. *Unplug* the power to the modem. 4. Turn off the computer (shut down, do not suspend). 5. Plug in the modem and wait 60 seconds. 6. Plug in the router and wait 60 seconds. 7. Turn on your computer and allow it to boot.
Something else to try:
Reset the router by pressing in the reset button and counting to 10 slowly, then let go of the reset button. Your router is now at factory defaults.
Follow the Quick Install Guide for your situation. If you lost yours, you can download it from support.dlink.com.
When it comes time to power up and test, follow the 7 steps above. -- Robb Topolski http://www.funchords.com/ Hillsboro, Oregon USA |

| reply to funchords I'm trying to get my Dlink DWL-122 USB WiFi adapter to work, and I keep getting the message "Can't find file LIBWLAN.DLL." I've reinstalled 3 times, and searched everywhere to find that goofy program. I don't mean to be rude, but all the instructions to plug and unplug seem irrelevant to finding a missing dll file. The simple answer I'm looking for is WHERE can I go to get a copy of the file?? |
