| problem sharing files
I have 2 pcs. One is running on wireless linksys G USB network adapter and the other is directly connected to the wireless linksys G router through a cable. I am not able to access the files on either computers and they both have file sharing on. I have tried to run network wizard and it only shows the built in ethernet port as disconnected. Any ideas on how to get the two sharing files?
thanx |

| Can both computers see each other? Are any firewalls on? Are both computers in the same work group? Is the same username account/password combo on both computers?
What OS?
Can both computers access the Internet?
Just some common checks...:) |

| reply to kento Please post IPCONFIG /ALL for both of these. (*See the last paragraph.)
Also, open an explorer window and type \\%COMPUTERNAME% and see if you can see the items on your own computer.
»www.practicallynetworked.com/sha···ring.htm The above link describes proper setup.
»support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;e···&sid=184 describes the services that must be started
Lastly:
*http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314053 describes registry changes that might be made. Specifically, look at NBT's NodeType parameter. I use 1 for my network, which makes IPCONFIG /ALL show "Node Type: Broadcast. -- Robb Topolski http://www.funchords.com/ Hillsboro, Oregon USA |

join:2004-01-02 Maumee, OH | reply to kento When I had that problem setting up our network, it was because the same username/password combo was not on both computers and in the same workgroup. You don't have to logged in as that user, it just has to be on both computers with same privileges. |

Is File/Print sharing even turned on? You'd not believe how many people forget this step.
If nothing is shared...it doesn't mean a hill of beans if you're in the same workgroup! |

| Turn Norton off for your tests. Make sure XP firewall is off too. XP SP2 enables it by default.
To post an IPCONFIG in XP:
Start-run-CMD IPCONFIG /ALL right click - select all - enter paste in your reply
Hope this helps |

| Need to know if you're pulling an IP address from the router, if Default Gateway/DHCP server addresses are being pulled. If that info is there, please post. Otherwise, have you tried repairing the connection? (there's a 'repair' button on the network connection properties tab for local area connection) |

anyway...thanks!! When the node (individual computer) broadcasts, it basically says "I am _________, you can connect to me here, I have ________, and I know about ___________." The computers that hear the broadcast know that any requests for _________ can be sent there -- for the next x seconds (600 by default). -- Robb Topolski http://www.funchords.com/ Hillsboro, Oregon USA |
