1 edit | Netgear MR814 Problems
I'm using a Netgear MR814 router. Everything worked fine for the past 3 years or so. However, recently when I connect wirelessly from my laptop in the same manner and location that I always have it only achieves a 1.0 Mbps speed (previously a consistent 11.0 Mbps) (based on hovering mouse over wireless icon in tray) and does not open web pages. Sometimes it will start out OK then the speed (connection) will deteriorate. The only recent change I made to the system was updating XP to SP2. A lot of times it will show the 11.0 and perform well for a few minutes after boot-up and then go to showing 1.0 and not accessing web pages (hang at "web page found ..waiting for response" or "opening web page"). Did the tests...RWIN did not change...still 64240. Speed test..terrible... 20 KBS....then hung at 2%. My wired desktop is a consistent 600-680 KBS down plugged into the MR814.Used to get at least 300 KBS on the wireless till this happened. Thanks for any help.
I was referred here from the OOL forum...Here is link to that thread. »Change in Wireless Performance on OOL |

| reply to john150 Try changing the channel. Personlly, I use channel 6.
Not all channels are equal. Try the even channels first, and then the odd, and find out which channel gives you the best speed. -- »www.reverse.net |

| reply to john150 Security just prevents other people from connecting to your network. However, if they are close and on the same channel their broadcasts can interfere with your network. There are only three non overlapping channels (1, 6, and 11). If you neighbor is on six then try one or eleven. -- Jim Anderson |

| Hi Posadeno Just to clear things up. Do I understand you right, when you say that the IP706sm-firmware work in a MR814V2 ? Have you tested it ? What are the differences between Netgear and Sercomm firmware ? Any new good features ?
Best regards STHH |

If you are using the XP wireless client try unchecking "enable 802.1X authentication" in the utility . |
