voiploverPremium join:2004-05-28 Portsmouth, NH 1 edit | reply to altecz The ATA does not give out a hang up signal that is recognised by the answering machine.
Edit: possible solutions; 1. Set your answering machine from vox to time duration or whatever. 2. Voxilla.com sells a bridge that may work on some machines, but I have not personally tested it. 3. Use the call forwarding or find me feature. 4. Become satisfied with CV voicemail. I personally can not afford to miss a single VM, so I use FWD to a pots line to a recorder. Good Luck! |

| reply to altecz From reading this forum a lot I remember someone having the same problem with Vonage. The only ATA that they found that would correctly with an answering machine was the Motorola ATA that Vonage has used in the past. I use Lingo voice mail with the option that sends my voice mail as wave files to my e-mail. -- Comcast, Lingo, MutualPhone, SimpleTelecom, Stanaphone |

And the response from Mr.ATT was 100% correct, but totally useless. My answer was a little more technical and also correct, but is still not the answer that you want. So I offer a simple solution; try pots cause you are not getting what you want with voip. Good Luck. |

voiploverPremium join:2004-05-28 Portsmouth, NH | said by altecz:So does any one use an phone answering machine instead of att cv on their voip service and works OK. I WILL TRY AGAIN. 1. Look at the paper thingy that came in the box when you bought your answering machine. 2. Read through it until you find the section that refers to 'VOX'. It will tell you how to set the answering machine for VOX or timed recordings. 3. Follow the directions for setting the machine for timed recordings. 4. Connect your answering machine to your ATA and wait till you have an incoming call. Don't answer it, wait for the machine to pick it up. If the machine does what it should then it will hang up after taking a message.
If you have any problems with these instructions then IM me and I will write them slower for you! |

Re: [ATT CV] HEP WANTED " With Att VOIP" APPLY WIT OK HERE IS THE REAL TECHNICAL ANSWER.....oh sorry...lol
Remember why you paid so much for your old pots line? It was regulated. There were rules. The government enforced those rules. The result was a standard phone line with the same class of service treatments no matter where in the "former Bell System" you had service.
Along comes totally unregulated VOIP. No one has to do anything as far as a standard is concerned. Answering machines are basically stupid Luddite Friendly pieces of equipment and they really don't know when your caller has stopped speaking so the regulated phone companies came up with a feature called "cutoff on disconnect" or COD which provides a momentary circuit open condition. The voltage drops to zero for this period and your answering machine shuts off. Clever and regulated.
Voip does not do this, they don't have to and that's why these services are so cheap. They are not replacements for regular phone service, they are an Internet transported means of communications which mimics pots service but not completely. So you'll just have to put up with that guys voice or use the Callvantage provided voice mail. |

 voiploverPremium join:2004-05-28 Portsmouth, NH 4 edits | Which problem? . . . .
Sorry. It is just a small conflicting miss-match between the design of the ATA and the way most answering machine are designed to work. You may just have to live with it. Now I know where ex wives come from! Agawam, MA |

Yes, others have had this problem, we've explained it and they now understand it. No it is not just you. VOIP does not really work well with answering machines and they probably don't want to be bothered worrying about another old technology to support. Dude, give it up already - it is not going to work.
NOTE TO OTHER FORUM REGULARS: This guy obviously is jerking our line cords and will just keep asking the same question over and over again just like the recording he keeps hearing. |
