So, is there a penalty for sticking the cell phone into the abusers ear? Must be at least 5 minutes in the penalty box... |

Tthe airlines create specific flights that are "cell-phone" enabled / disabled.. kinda like what they did with smoking / non-smoking flights.
Worse yet, when you book a flight one of the new quesitons will be; "Do you want to be on a Cell-phone use area of the plane or not?" I can just imagine folks that want to use thier cell phones in flight will book a seat in the non-cell phone area, then get up and walk to the area of the plane; stand in the isle and make their calls...
This is gonna get ugly |

At the supermarket, when the person in front of you is talking about NOTHING and is not paying attention to the cashier...then they want to write a check or need a price check on an item ...I tell them to get off the damn phone & pay attention... 9 times out of 10 they hang up and move on. I have NO PROBLEM letting someone know I do not appreciate their phone conversation when it is infringing on me and my space. Just how important can a call be? You do have voice mail and an earphone, right? |

1. if you want to talk (and annoy people) you will have to connect through the mini transceiver/picocell on the plane so it will be as expensive as the AirPhones in the seatbacks (so the annoying people shouldn't be any worse than they are already with AirPhones)
2. if they lift the ban we'll be able to use our SmartPhones and PDA phones to play games, listen to music, read e-books, etc. without the flight attendants forcing you to shut it off and put it away |

easy solution eat some air line food and 10 min later you should be able to fart louder then the person on the phone. It may not shut them up but it will make them move and then they are someone els's problem |

The someone talking to someone next to themselves has only that person to talk to. With a cellphone, this same annoying person can to to an unlimited amount of people. -- rok - Enjoy this game called life, nobody is actually keeping score. |

I'd rather use my cell. just consider what it's like sitting next to the prick who wants to do his full business meeting on the plane. (yelling) "YEAH BOB, I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE SAYING BUT I JUST CAN'T GIVE IN, THERE'S NO WAY I CAN DO THAT - HOLD ON I CAN BARELY HEAR YOU. OH YOU WANT ME TO SPEAK UP? NO PROBLEM. THANK GOD I HAVE MY CELL PHONE SO I CAN STROKE MY EGO EVEN MORE!"
Forget about business now, how about teenage love-birds talking THE WHOLE flight? "Ohh chrissy i've got the HUUUUGEST crush on timmy in 2nd period, hehehehehe! yeah i'm like, SOOOOO into him. I like, can't wait for him to like, ask me out so we can like... like... like each other! HEHEHE!"
That sets chills down my spine already.
I can truly see people asking "please sit me next to a quiet couple with 2 babies - it's so much more pleasant." |

| reply to MikeRaach Unfortunately, some people seem to assume that if the cellular connection isn't great or there's background noise that SPEAKING LOUDER FIXES THE PROBLEM.
In public places, you can frequently distinguish who's carrying on a cell conversation from others carrying on interpersonal conversation without even seeing them. Many of them basically scream into the phone.
That would get really annoying sitting next to someone on a plane who's trying to look important or is just bored and wanting to yak with their friend/girlfriend/boyfriend/kid/parent/co-worker, etc.
If people actually carried on cellular conversations at reasonable volume, it probably wouldn't be a problem. -- When people are free to do as they please, they usually imitate each other. |

I have resolved that if the person next to me has the right to talk into a phone, loudly and past the point of annoyance, then I have the right to talk into a non-phone, loudly and past the point of annoyance. |

Verizon Wireless customers can have their cellphone forwarded to Airfone. It is treated like a "roaming" call: $0.69/minute. Or you can pay a $10/mo fee and then calls are $0.10/min. Automatically "unforwards" when you get off the plane. |
