No mobile phones, please

Thankfully, I am rarely on a domestic flight here in the states. I don't know how many of you actually travel abroad, but to those that do, I am sure you have noticed that it is us, the Americans, who cannot behave themselves very well. We expect everything to be perfect - our seats, the food, other passengers........
Because of the tremendous lack of patience and tolerance we americans have towards each other, and just about everything if it isn't perfect, there will be many problems. I always bring earplugs and an eye mask when I fly if I need to try to sleep or relax. I can see now these two items may be even more important to me if they allow mobile phone use.
I am really surprised that people can't manage their lives well enough to just relax for a few hours and stay off the phone. Talk to your neighbor.....play with the crying baby.....enjoy the view out the window. Try to show some interest in something other than yourself. You may find life as intriguing as I do.

I agree in theory with your statements. What most are missing here is simply the lack of cell phone etiquette in general-not just on planes, but everywhere else.

The confined space of an airplane seems to add to the agitation factor exponentially, like elevators, cars, trains, subways, etc. Americans like their personal space-if you've travelled abroad you know what I mean-and cell phones have invaded that personal space. Our culture's attitude is "do what I say, not what I do" so therefore we can yap all day about astroturf but can't stand it when our neighbor is cooing to their girlfriend on the exact same phone.

Just because we can call instantly wherever, whenever we want doesn't necessarily mean we should. And if you just have to save that extra 4 minutes waiting for your ride by calling as soon as the plane lands, why not exercise some respect and speak in a polite tone, at a polite volume? Consideration for others is an adult skill we've shitcanned in the name of "progress". Ballyhoo to progress.

BTW: I have 2 cellphones, and use them frequently. Nobody is getting rich on the plans I have, but they are useful, when used appropriately. I don't use them unless I have to, and only in the privacy of my stopped vehicle, office, or home, so unless my fuzzy dice have ears, I'm not irritating anyone. Just to show I practice what I preach...
