| My story.
I ordered Bell on the 8th or 9th of February, after moving. I retrieved my kit on the 17th because we don't have a mailbox in this neighbourhood yet. The activation date had been passed, because it activated on the 15th. No biggie.
Prior to ordering, I asked a sales or tech rep (can't remember which one) what my distance from the CO was. I wasn't told a number, but was told I could only get HSE. It didn't make sense since I had seen two remotes in the area, and DaJatt had confirmed to me that I was within range of three remotes.
Anyway, so I hook up the modem and etc., and realse the DSL light's not on. Modem's not syncing, apparently. I call tech support, and get someone who can't speak English well. Being a self respecting person who's parents came as immigrants, I talk with as much respect as I'd give the next white person.
After getting me to do ridiculously simple things that any self respecting human would have done prior to calling, he tells me to call back in a few hours because their line test server was down.
So I hang up, and call again right away. I get a different tech who's exeptionally friendly and helpful. After about 15 minutes of doing random basic things, he puts me through to Tier 2. Tier 2 isn't much help and tells me that someone from the Test Center will call me back in 48 hours. Something to keep in mind when they say "someone will call you in 48 hours," it actually means, "call us back in 48 hours."
So I do just that, because as expected, no one calls me. The agent reads through the notes and puts me through to Tier 2 right away. Tier 2 reads the notes, and puts me through to the Testing Center, right away. The agent tells me a field tech's gonna come out, and asks me when would be good. I said Monday evening 5 - 9 PM. I keep the guy on the phone busy for a while by asking him questions about my hookup to the CO. He says, "that's the problem." He told me I'm quite close to a remote DSLAM, right down the street actually.
Sure enough, today at 4:30 a tech calls and says everything should be okay. I go up and check, and sure enough, the DSL light is on and the modems syncing. I ask him what the problem was, and he says my hookup to the remote was reversed (+ went into - and - went into +?).
So, order to live: 6 + 6 Days Overall Mood: =|
Not bad, not too good. But I guess that's what happens sometimes, right? No ones perfect. I like the service, though I wish they'd hurry up with the upgrades, or atleast put out an optional 8 Mbps service for those who could get it.
Sorry for the long post, just thought it'd give some people advice and what to expect should somethin like this happen to them. |

| reply to Sean Have you updated your ISP review? I suggest copy and pasting, this was very informative.
Since Rogers announce it's cap I've been looking for alternatives, unfortunately bell doesn't service my area with DSL. I would have to move a block to get just HSE.
I can't wait for bell to expand in my city. I really want to try the service! -- Looks like another ID 10 T error. |

| reply to Poser Closest major intersection is Yonge/19th Ave. I live just a minute north of there, on Yonge/Townwood Dr. (I actually live on Townwood Dr.)
I don't know if I have three remotes in my area, but I've seen one, and the tech told me I was hooked up to another. So that makes two I know for sure that are within 5 minutes of here.
Bell's goal is to have a remote every one or two KM from any neighbourhood, so I guess that's why there's that many in this area. If you're gonna do an area, do it right, right? Just wait, you're turn will come soon...
As far as speedtest show, I'm on the 3008/800 profile (2496/640 real world speeds).
I'd rather not clutter my review with this, so what I'll do is when I do get the time to update my review, I'll link to this thread. That way they can read your comments as well.
... or maybe I'll cut and paste and edit a bit, lol. |

| reply to Sean Well, what I've seen and believe to be a remote (though this apparently isn't the one I'm hooked up to... though it might be... the tech wasn't specific as to it's location) looks like a small brick hut. I haven't gotten too close to it, so that's all I know. It looks like a brick hut maybe 12' x 12'. From what I'm told that's not a stinger, but it's a remote DSLAM. Stingers I've been told are much smaller. |

| reply to Sean I can probably shine some light on the transfer from 2nd to bell. 2nd level agents can only wait on hold for bell for a period of 90 seconds I think it was. After that, they have to assign the ticket to bell in their queue. Otherwise, if you had got direct contact the the bell test center, your issue would have been resolved right away.
Since your ticket was in queue, the only way the queue is cleared is if the bell centers call volume dies off for an agent. An agent would open the ticket bin, do a prelim line stat and then assign for call back/rolll out etc.
Its more than likely that probably didn't happen yet, and an agent was able to forward you to a test center agent right away on your last call. -- [Internet] Rogers Yahoo! | reply to Sean What's odd is that despite the fact that I'm hooked up to a remote, the selfcare website and the sales reps don't acknoledge that, and claim that I'm only eligible for HSE. I'm assuming their cross checking it with the actual CO rather than the remote.
So my guess is the only way to upgrade is to say:
"Just upgrade me. I don't care if I get HSU sync, just upgrade me."
Then, I must call and hope to be put through to the testing centre and get them to up my profile manually.
.. I'm not gonna do that though. -_- |
