| [FAH] Tracking FAH over internet
I am wanting a way to track the progress of FAH running on a computer I am putting at my father's house. He has DSL, but not a static IP. I know EMIII can be setup for this, but without a static IP, I think I am out of luck. I also have no experience in setting anything like this up.
I was wondering if there are any free/cheap programs that I could use to automatically send an email one or two times a day with the FAH log file attached?
FYI, The computer will be running XP Home, and I have the same at here, along with ME and 98SE...Thanks! |

| I used to use KDFold to upload my stats to a webspace, so I could check them from work. I used KDFold as long as I could, but finally stopped. With newer proteins and newer F@H software it stopped working as well for me.
If EMIII will do that, I don't know how. In the linked thread from FCF, Larry said you could set up a VPN connection, use EMIII to monitor through the VPN over the internet. I have never done that, not sure XP Home has VPN capability. I know XP Pro does, however. -- Team Helix Forum - Join Us? |

| reply to tstolze I just did a quick google on XP VPN. Lots of info out there on that, if you want to take a look. Again, I'm really not sure XP Home will do that. -- Team Helix Forum - Join Us? |

| reply to tstolze I work remotely to my office quite often. I do not run EMIII there, but simply check the log at least once a day. I use a simple program, "Go to my PC". It allows access to all files that have not been denied access from the office end.
At the office files are tagged so certain secure files either auto encrypt, or are denied access. If access is attempted after warning, the office shuts down all traffic and file transfers. -- "Little one, I would like to see anyone -- prophet, king or God -- persuade a thousand cats to do anything at the same time." | reply to tstolze I'm also interested in it on my son's computer. He wouldn't want to do anything with it, and I don't think he'd want me having access to any of his computer-would be nice to have a simple program that would e-mail the log once a week. -- want to know what I'm doing? |

| I'd be interested in trying to design something like this.
Something that would send out a daily or weekly email update. The email part would be easy enough, the hard part would be getting the status of the client, and the work unit, I suppose. Or, I could just have it add the work unit log file as an attachment or something.
That could be fun, maybe I'll have a go at it. I wouldn't mind having something like that too. If you guys don't find anything, that is. Keep me posted! -- Team Helix - folding for the cures. Whitebread Forums - Check out my forums. |

1 edit | reply to tstolze I don't know if this will have enough information for you, but IF you have web space, you could consider keeping an eye on it using something like this?
»folder.nozero.org/
The program I use was written by Starfish and it can be modified to monitor multiple folders at multiple locations. The URL above shows two of my PCs at home and one at a friends home.
If you are interested, send me an IM. -- Every moment is another chance to turn it all around. If only one cure is to be found, don't you want to be part of that? Here's how... |

| reply to tstolze My ISP offers up to 5mb of space. Would that be enough? I have never tried anything like this before. That looks like the best answer so far. The "go to my PC" looks great but the price of $19.95/month or $179/year if paid yearly. My problem with using VPN is the dynamic IP address, someone chime in if that is not a problem. |

| reply to tstolze I doubt you'd need even 1MB of that space. So yes, the 5MB would be more than enough.
Can you FTP to your space? (critical)
The files I have are dated 3/14/2004 and may very well be the most current versions, but I'll check to be certain when I get home.
 foldy_stats_···ader.zip 929560 bytes The uploader (foldy_stats_uploader.exe)
foldy_uploader.zip 936 bytes the config file for the uploader (foldy_uploader.cfg)
You'll need a home directory on your web space, in my case the home directory is "folder" it contains the php and csv files that make up the web page. It has a substructure of two directories:
drop_box which contains the unitinfo.txt files for each WU and fm_files which contains the css file and any image files. -- Every moment is another chance to turn it all around. If only one cure is to be found, don't you want to be part of that? Here's how... |

| reply to nozero This looks pretty good Michael. Exactly what I think we are looking for...
I played around with FTP, a few years ago, during my "ratio" mp3 days. I haven't tried any FTP programs in quite a while. Can you recommend an easy one, that will work for this?
BTW, I don't necessarily have to have an FTP client, to up-load this to my space, as an "up-load file" button is provided on-site software, but I assume we would need one,(FTP client) for the info gathered by your program(s) that Starfish made for you, since you indicated "CRITICAL"?
Do those two files need to be up-loaded to "home directory", on our FTP site?
Forgive me, I am pretty ignorant about these things
I will try to do this from this computer, to get it working correctly, before I attempt to install it on the remote computers. -- For my Mom |

1 edit | In most cases I think back as far as Win 98 your browser can be used as an FTP client. You can also use WS_FTP, or Cute FTP or just about any other client.
folder.zip 13808 bytes zipped up folder structure gets unzipped then ftp'd (uploaded) to your site.
I'll work on some step by step instructions when I get back from our walk. 30-60 minutes or so. -- Every moment is another chance to turn it all around. If only one cure is to be found, don't you want to be part of that? Here's how... |
