1 edit | If you feel strongly then tell your representative
We do have the advantage of living in a country where we can voice our concerns to our leaders.
if you feel strongly about this, then be sure to let your representatives in the House and Senate know about it.
They have oversight on this type of thing.
You can find their contact info at »thomas.loc.gov/ |

| Oh lets tell out House and Senate. Like they would fucking listen? "Send an Email" and get an Auto responce saying "Thank you for your email" Then thier servers just delete it. Even tho they say we have the right to talk, even if we do, no one will EVER listen. The only thing that talks is MONEY. -- inc.ath.cx Have a Networking problem or question? It's attitudes like that that let these things happen in the first place. Instead of being the victims, we should be active in our government.
This is not an attack on you despite the scalding tone. I just want to point out that the majority of US citizens think that way. This is one of the many reasons why our collective voice is not heard as often as it should be.
I will be sending some emails over this issue whether or not they are listened to. -- My Blog |

OK, now I feel stupid. I found the addresses, which I will mail letters out to if necessarily; however, in this technological age of ours I would assume that they would have email addresses. I can't find a directory of email addresses for the life of me.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Is there a primer about the proper channels in which to have your voice heard by the government? -- My Blog |

1 edit | reply to morph3ous I wrote this letter to my representative:
I am concerned over the appointment of D. Reed Freeman to the Department of Homeland Security's "Data Privacy and Integrity Committee."
Even though I doubt it will do any good, I have sent off this letter to my representative in the house>
I am concerned over the appointment of D. Reed Freeman to the Department of Homeland Security's "Data Privacy and Integrity Committee."
Mr. Freeman was the Chief Privacy Officer of a company that released a program named Gator that would install itself on computers without the permission of the computer user. The main purpose of Gator was to use the computers of unsuspecting users as platform for delivering unwanted advertisements. This seems an immoral act.
I am not sure if Mr. Freeman was the one who made these decisions; however, it is highly suspect that he at least took part in making some of the decisions. To appoint him to a position that will have him advising the Department of Homeland Security on Data Privacy and Integrity is a horrible idea.

| nice letter, well said without being inflamatory.
I don't doubt that single letters might get lesser attention by polititions, but these folks could hardly ignore many letters...their continued employment depends on the public they serve.
If we do take no action and just complain, then we probably get what we deserve, or to paraphrase Plato;
"Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber."
which brings me back to my original statement...if you really feel strongly about this, then you need to let your representatives know...otherwise, they will assume all is well. |

I've always been as non-political as possible.. As the years wear on and these stupid decisions are made, time and time again, I've begun to consider entering even some low level politics position -- It gets very very irritating to see these things occur, and the public disagree with them, for nothing to be done. I know you can't make everyone happy, but I have tried and can not come up with one plausable reason this schmuck should be in charge of anything, other than the meal trays. Anyone assosiated with malware companies should be blacklisted from any decision making, PR, or other tasks that can effect others. He already had his chance, and he shoved it right up the average computer "dummy"'s arse. So let's just give him some official 'good guy' status, put him on a board of folks discussing how legit tactics/software/etc are.
As much as I dread these news topics coming up, at least folks on the 'net can agree about something for once (for the most part..). |

It's apathetic schmucks like you that let it get to this f'ed up state of affairs in the first place. i guarantee that if every one that had a bitch about the way things are run wrote one letter to their senator or congressman things would change.
"ooohhh... they won't listen, so why should I bother to talk?"
You haven't been outside of encino much less out of the country have you? travel the world alittle bit, and you'll catch on prety quick that we have it really good here, no matter how messed up it may seem. -- Pura Vida! |

and you havent been outside that big head of yours..... it might have been founded on that but i doubt its THAT true anymore..... you guys arent as free and democratic as you like to think you are.... sure theres countries way worse but theres also some that are more free and democratic.... besides he didnt say that HE didnt try to do anything, he just said that they dont listen and after all it does seem to be the case... atleast when theres not an election coming up and even then they dont have to come through on their promises during the campaign |

I do admit that we definately have it better than most here, but it's not the "for the people, by the people" that you so claim. I do write my congressman/representitive, and believe me, it feels like my letters have been forwarded to their trash can.
Maybe if we arrived at his house with pitchforks and torches, they might then find the time to review our stance, but otherwise, it feels like a waste of paper, ink, and a first class stamp. |

| reply to lyls I'd agree with you that the US is one of the least free "free" countries in the world, but that only reiterates my point that people need to stand up and take responsibility for their government. When the voter turn out % in Iraq, where people were voting under fear of their lives, was higher than that of the most hyped US presidential election in years, it says something profound about the apathy and indifference that is rampant in this country. -- Pura Vida! |

I have traveled the world (looks like you haven't) but i see more freedom in other countries than here in the U.S.. Couple of years ago I came back from a trip in Europe only to get harassed by U.S. custom agents (long story). when in Europe traveling through different countries i was not harassed once. in fact i was welcomed. now don't say love it or leave it or go move their. I was born and brewed here in the U.S. and this is my country. I will not leave it to see it go to hell as others do (leave their country to come to the U.S.). I'm not going to run with my tail between my legs instead I'm going to stay and fight for my rights and freedom as our forefathers did. So instead of saying love it or leave it, we should all say "don't like it then fight it". that is much better than just whining |

| ever been to central or south america? SE asia? africa? yeah, there are a handfull of european countries and maybe canada that have more freedom than we do but the FACT of the matter is that the vast majority of the population of this planet lives under opressive regimes that don't honor any sort of freedom of speach, much less the freedom to change the things that you see wrong. my point stands. -- Pura Vida! |
