Re: [Notebooks] Is it true that Sony?

Thanks for the link showing the Vendors, and manufacturers that build for them.

Edited the faq to provide a link to this thread.

Taiwan and Korea are the only players designing notebooks. Japanese manufacturers such Sony and Toshiba still do some in-house design, but they're feeling the pressure. Fujitsu Siemens as well. Samsung, LGE and TriGem are Korean and do ODMs for other brands.

There are only 3 manufacturers of notebooks. All resellers, Dell/HP/Compaq/whatever, buy them from one or all 3 depending on which model.

None of the majors make their own notebooks. Toshiba, Dell, HP Compaq and Sony all outsource.

Uniwill's the name.

Compare this »www.averatec.com/notebooks/6100series.htm
with this »www.uniwill.com/products/other/n···SA0.html

You can find many more obviously identical models if you browse the two sites.

Makes the Averatech brand? Someone posted this on another board, and a user bought an Averatech based on that comment.

Is this true? I had never heard that before....
