Why is this STILL news?

»More on Verizon Blockade

Have a quick read of my comment from that news posting:

Let's be realistic here - Verizon is trying to cut down on spam like everyone else. They don't give a flying fụck if your emails are received or not.

AND

If I see one more complaint about business email being lost, I'M GOING TO FỤCKING KILL WHOEVER USES VERIZON EMAIL FOR THEIR BUSINESS. Domains are cheap, and POP3 accounts are even cheaper.

Plus, @verizon looks tacky and shows your business has no comprehension of current communications standards. At that point, your email might as well be from @aol.com...

Re: Why is this STILL news?

You have it ass backwards. The problem is with CUSTOMERS who BUY stuff from us, using a VZ account. It means, thanks to VZ stupidity, if the confirmation email comes from a foreign server they don't get it. So they cancel the order. You may not see it this way, but it acts as an illegal block on trade, and who VZ customers can do business with.

Re: Why is this STILL news?

You make a good point - I never thought of it like that. I was referring to businesses that rely on Verizon for their own email communications. Several of the articles mentioned quoted business users as having problems.

This problem isn't unique to Verizon though. I used to work for an ISP that dropped all Amazon.com email because they failed to respond to our spam complaints...

It is unfortunate that people are having this problem but, as always, there's no accountability with the larger corporations. Just look at all of the Verizon lobbying activity on muni broadband laws in states like PA.

I have to agree with both of your 'self' quotes, especially the second quote.

One part of this puzzle that I would bet most people do not know about is that if your domain sends email to Verizon they instantly do two checks against you. One they test your email server automatically to see if it is an open relay. And two while your server is trying to deliver the email they are hitting your server to double check that the 'from' address is valid.

They have a ton of BS rules on their servers if you send them email. I am almost to the point where I sys admin of blocking my users from sending to Verizon, so we are not subject to their abusive practices.

Re: Why is this STILL news?

I'm sorry, but you are giving the assclowns at Verizon far too much credit. The rules are simple -

Firewall rule on Port 25 - Incoming IP - "foreign" - FcuK off, US - OK.

No offense, you are underestimating the depths of their stupidity. What I described they have been doing for a couple of years, to everyone. Seperate issue from their mass block of europe. Was just another example of the craziness there.
