 [News] VOIP coming to Springfield

It was announced in a meeting that Springfield will be launching VOIP. It was said that it will be launched in June. They have started setting the equipment up. The current Cisco ubr's are being replaced by the Arris Cadant C4 cmts (Here is a link to check out the new ubr »www.arrisi.com/products_solution···ndex.asp ). I will let you know as soon as I have more info.

The new modems they will use will be Arris modems.

What I was told this is digital phone service and not actual VOIP phone service , feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I read your blog and I can say that they are setting up Gig-E for the network but it will be part of the same bandwidth as your internet service (From my understanding). I think the new equipment Insight has purchased to set this up ie. the ubr's is a BIG improvement and should help with some of the current issues. If you use Vonage then you should know that they use best effort not true Qos. The pricing is already out. It will be part of the 40, 30, 20 deal.

Seems VOIP can be somewhat confirmed from yet another source.

"That'll become more important as the system readies a VoIP launch. Vandegraft is looking into developing round-the-clock automated system monitoring--another crucial component of launching VoIP."
