Re: [Rant] My 2005 Ford Escape Escapade & general And in my case, my vehicle does beat a Japanese vehicle.:D (Well, excpet that awesome 12mpg that I get around town ) Get back to me when your car has 165,000 miles on it. Sure, most NEW cars are fine, unless its a lemon. But its when they start to hit around 70,000 miles that the difference between Japanese and American show.
My car looks older--it has a few dings on it. It runs great though. All I do is change the oil--as far as engine related-repairs I have done two things in its entire life--change the timing belt and replace the alternator. Thats it. It is the most no-maintenance car I've ever owned. Most American cars dont even make it to that mileage and if they do, you will be fixing it every other day. -- Time for another tea party! | | HallPremium,MVM join:2000-04-28 Dayton, OH kudos:1 | I'm quite proud of my '88 Honda Prelude Si. I bought it used with ~50,000 miles on it and drove it 'til 246,000 miles when the clutch went out. I decided it was done and parked it in the garage for two years 'til a neighbor bought it. He put a new battery in it and it cranked for about (3) seconds (whereas it normally fired up instantly) and it started. | | | reply to HappyBunny said by HappyBunny:Get back to me when your car has 165,000 miles on it. My Expedition only has 45k. But My 94 Explorer Sport model I kept till 117k and I never had a single major repair. Maybe that was the exception, or maybe they (Ford/GM) just make much better trucks than cars. Only our Passat (Crap city), Accord (Great), and the Explorer (Great), have I ever kept over 100k, other cars I have traded in I guess before they hit the wall. Planning on keeping the Expedition so we will see, and my wife REALLY wants an Escape, so despite the OP issues, that may be the next vehicle we get. The dealer here though has always been real responsive to any minor issues, so hopefully I would not have the problems the OP has had. | |
