Perhaps they are doing some rethinking of what and who to be friends with. I just hope it becomes the USERS and not the BAD GUYS.

Well, AdAware has made aliances with spyware, malware companie(s) and the true value of Ad Aware is now not so great.
I hate to say this but your likely going to be sholdering up with MS in the near future for un-biased scanning.
And when I say un-biased I mean you will still have to accept the fact that whatever MS says is spyware etc will be detected and they don't have the cleanest record either.

They have certainly dropped the ball on detections of WhenU. They have clearly mishandled the initial notification of this change and the subsequent uproar. They are in dire need of a person to rationally and adequately handle their public relations needs. But they are not in bed with the malware producers of this world.

It's time to wake up and smell the coffee. There is too much money at stake for folks like Ad Aware and even SpyBot to pass up. The advertisers have big bucks and rolling over some small time programming folks like afore mentioned is now all the rage. If ya can't beat 'em, BUY 'EM!

The beauty of it is that you won't need having 2 or 3 different programs doing real-time scanning watching your back.

I can't see why running both any Norton security application - well known for bloatware- and MSAS realtime monitor can be better than KAV relating performance.

MS has apparently bought - or are in the process of buying - Sybary, which happens to use - amongst other things - the KAV engine.

Some companies have started down the path you mentioned. AdAware, produced by Lavasoft, isn't one of them..., yet. I don't know the driver behind the WhenU fiasco experienced by Lavasoft recently, but I sincerely doubt it was via either a formal or informal alliance.
I also agree some will fall victim to the siren call of money or pull back at the threat of costly litigation. That scenario is playing out now. It's not over yet.

Maybe the Ad-aware guys are in a depressed funk over what the future holds.
Legal advise isn't cheap.
When is the last time one of us sent them something by PayPal.
As well as the Coast thing, and MS belatedly getting into the ASW market, there is the fact that AV products are also going after spyware and covert adware.
The free part of Ad-aware is a scanner. It was the #2 product in eBurger's tests. Ad-aware doesn't incur overhead except when the scanner is running. And no ASW product is anywhere close to 100% effective.
So for now I'm going to keep Ad-aware SE as one tool in my arsenal.
