| Can't complain...
We had Vonage problems yesterday. It ticked my wife to no end. However, we also had cable problems yesterday. (Cable TV was going on and off.) After reading this thread, I'm sure part of our problems were due to Vonage but most were due to the cable company. Our problems persisted all day long until I finally went upstairs and power cycled the cable modem, router and VOIP adapter. Before I did that, I noticed that the cable modem kept rebooting and the router would reboot every time the cable modem rebooted. Very odd behavior.
Regardless, I pay $27/month for Vonage (including taxes/fees). I get unlimited long distance and so many features I don't even use them all. Even with SBC's best deal, I still pay less than half for Vonage. I certainly don't get HALF the service. I get 99% of the service. This is nothing short of a fantastic deal.
Granted -- VOIP is not for everyone. Based on yesterday's issues, the typical VOIP customer would have called, complained and threatened to cancel. I realized my cable had problems and I know that my phone service will never be more reliable than my HSI connection.
I've only had to call Vonage three times in the more than two years I've been with them. Once for 911 transfer problems. Once for number portability problems and once because the primary port on my ATA-186 crapped out. (Still worked but it wouldn't ring any phones. I think a storm got it.)
All other issues were tied directly to my HSI connection or Vonage issues of which they told me about on their web site. In total, there have probably been half a dozen "situations" like this over the past two years. Even with these issues, I can't believe I pay this little for phone service. | | GeekJedi RF is Good For You Premium join:2001-06-21 Mukwonago, WI clubs:

| Right on!
You hit the nail right on the head. Even with the occasional hiccups, Vonage is an incredible value.
