byloPremium join:2004-05-04 Waterloo, ON | Bell dry lines RSN Bell finally grants high-speed freedomCanada's largest phone company has confirmed that, by the end of this month, its customers will be able to buy its Sympatico digital subscriber line (DSL) service on its own without having to pay for a local phone line. Bell, in a letter dated Sept. 15 to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, committed to coming out with so-called naked DSL by March of this year. It will mean that customers who want to use their mobile phone or a Voice over Internet Protocol product as their primary phone service won't have to pay $23 or more for a local line they don't plan to use. |

 | reply to bylo Good to hear. It won't affect my situation because I'm happy with POTS. But at least those who bitch and complain about getting DSL without a Bell line will shut the hell up! -- "It's all coming down!!" - Mike Holmes |

| reply to bylo Sweet. About time indeed. I may just bring my dual WAN router out of retirement and get a 2nd line on the 2nd pair coming into my house! -- }·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´ |

Dont really need the speed anymore, but the curiousity of which line has better sync is killing me hahaha.
If bell also dropped the modem charges, we'd be in heaven. |

| reply to HiVolt Now, the question remains, can we just get DSL from ANY provider, or will it only be Sympatico at first? -- }·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´ |

 | reply to bylo It basically means anyone can now get DSL without having subscribe to an actual land-line. Yay! |
|
 | reply to bylo I called Bell today, and the rep said that it's only in testing phase in Ontario and won't see the light in Quebec for a few months again...
So, who is BS'ing? Is Bell supposed to offer naked DSL EVERYWHERE by the end of March? I'm moving in April, and Bell wants to charge me 55$ for landline activation... I'd love to save that 55$ along with the 32$/month for a landline I don't use. -- »www.shakkan.net |

Quote from the article: ""At the end of the month we're doing a soft launch," said Charlotte Burke, senior vice-president of consumer Internet services at Bell."
The next paragraph is an assumption the reporter is making, and not based on actual fact. -- F*ckin' NHLPA - wrecking the game for all of us... |

Man, i can't wait to ditch bell. Also, i work at bestbuy so i get a really good discount on the Ultra High Speed =) |

 | reply to bylo Yeah I can't wait to ditch landline too. Problem is I'm moving in April. If it's not available then (naked DSL), I'd have to pay 55$ activation fee again... sucks. The guy I spoke to today had no clue about it. :\ -- »www.shakkan.net |

 | reply to bylo Seems Bell hasn't put the word out internally yet. I was at a Bell World store downtown Toronto today, and the rep told me it will never be possible to get Sympatico without residential voice service. Oh well, hopefully soon ! |

dirtyjefferAnons on ignore.Premium join:2002-02-21 London, ON | reply to bylo it is interesting considering i asked Michael Sabia this very question just a month ago...i think it is a critical part of a successful VoIP product, as many people won't want to have both services (POTS and VoIP)...he said he didn't see it as something we would be seeing soon, although other people commented on the importance of it as well. -- "The only thing more greedy than a corporation, are its customers." |
