Re: Microsoft Security Bulletin Revisions

After installing both these updates this afternoon on 98SE, the cursor has moved eratically and my system has locked several times, internet access blocked, hard reboots required.

I've uninstalled both patches, restored previous hlink.dll file, restored previous good registry, and still have problem. Uninstall does not fix problems.

Should have known better than to DL MS patches immediately.

Anyone else?

Sorry that you're having trouble but I installed both patches on 98SE over an hour ago and thus far have encountered no problems whatsoever.

Well not exactly but yeah i had problems too after installing the patch in question (kb891711)on a windows 98SE box

i have an optical microshaft intellimouse with a usb connector, i however had it plugged into the microshaft adapter which it comes with, which converts the USB connection into a standard round ibm ps-2 (keyboard style) connector

after installing the patch, my mouse was not detected at all and when i moved it, it would make an annoying gringing noise through the PC speaker

deciding that it would be entirely futile attempting to undo any kind of microshaft software entanglement, i removed the microshaft adapter from the microshaft mouse and plugged it directly into a free usb port, and rebooted,

fortunately this solved my particular problem.
hope this is of some help to somebody somewhere

figures, microsoft mouse, microsoft adapter, microsoft windows, microsoft bug and microsoft patch, and they still cant work together
