Well, I have successfully connected my laptop to the 6208 and recorded as well as streamed video from it using a Firewire. You can record live shows only from the analog channels because of encryption for rights management on the digital channels. I can record also the digital feeds of the PBS station as well as the local HD channels. But the quality is not very good since the stream is pushing so much data it kills the computer. The rate for standard definition is about 6.3Mbps so you end up with about 2.4gigs used per 1 hour of programs. I was also able to record shows I had saved on the HD, but you had to play it to get it, not just pull it from the drive. You also can only record the shows from the channels mentioned above. So you can't record say HBO then play it again from the DVR and record it to a PC. It took me about 15 minutes to find the software and install it from the AVS forums so it is actually pretty easy to do.

| Good information. But again this would entail me to have to make a hardware investment. Not everyone has a laptop, firewire or an extra drive lying around. And so far all the solutions seem to point to having a one part of that or a combination of those. It would nice if "content" providers would be a little less paranoid and allow hardware manufactures to provide a truly customer friendly device. Yes I know this is a pipe dream of mine. -- Test Your Security Cable DiagnosticsIggyz Blog ZoneAlarm Help |

| reply to compugeek Thanks for the information, compugeek. I'm now going to try to wade through the endless posts about this on the AVS Forum.
[lazyness on] I wish someone over there would just consolidate all the useful information; instead of it be spread throughout hundreds of posts. [lazyness off]

1 edit | It would nice if we could get someone to make a FAQ for this forum in regards to this. It is a common enough question. No I'm not the person to do this. So even though I'm making the suggestion. Don't pawn the issue off on me.:D I'm behind enough in the things I need to do.
I still would like to see an option to hook something like an Xbox / Playstation wireless adapter to the box and to be able to access it's contents that way.
I've been thinking of breaking down and getting a hardrive enclosure with Firewire and going that router though. -- Test Your Security
