| Efficient tells me about advanced diagnostics!
If you remember, I posted information about advanced diagnostics I received, but they were not for the 4060 Modem. So, (as I did here in another thread) I sent the three .jpg pictures I posted here, and asked for information on that.
The answer I got was: "These are for factory techs only, for help with diagnosing problems."
Lets see: I pay for this factory tech's time, hotel, and airfare to get here (like as if they'd send him/her!) so they can call up the 4060 diags, then CTRL/ALT/A to get to the advanced diags, and then I put him/her on the phone with Tier 1 ?????
Yeah, right! Just to vent, I'm posting the pictures again! REMEMBER, YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS!!!! -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

| reply to Jan Janowski First: you click on the 4060 Icon, to bring up the diagnostics window. Second: CTRL/ALT/A opens the advanced diagnostic window. Third: Now you know about it, we'll have to kill you!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------- ------------------------ Actually, from the statistics the 4060 and 3060 are the same modem. This is the only advanced documentation we have for the 4060.

| reply to Jan Janowski I think that was the guy I email'd to.... I sent him the pictures I posted....
The origional file I was sent is a one page .pdf file with a picture of one window with data, one window with checkmarks, and a x/y graph of what ID 1-13 mean for A, B & C, (whateve that is....?) the one that was sent me was Also labeled 4060, but obviously isn't. |

| reply to Jan Janowski This is what they sent. Frankly I don't know what model it is for, but it ISN'T for a 4060! -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

| If no one has any info on the screens I could tell you what most of the info on the tabs tell you. I'll skip the ones hat I think are self explanitory.
AAL5 ATM Adapation Layer: The standards layer that allows multiple applications to have data converted to and from the ATM cell. A protocol used that translates higher layer services into the size and format of an ATM cell. .
SDU- Service Data Unit - A unit of interface whose identity and information is perserved from one end of the layer connection to the other. If these units are changed or errored or anyway it is a pointer to the integrity of the protocol stack that is doing the SAR incorrectly
Cell- A unit of transmission in ATM. A fixed-size frame consisting of a 5-octet header and a 48-octet payload.
Octets- Basically anther name for bytes (octet=8 eight bits = one byte)
SAR Timeouts- Segmentation and Reassembly: Method of breaking up arbitrarily sized packets. There is a set amount of time for a packet to go through a SAR and be reassembled for transport as an application (IP) if it exceeds that time then you'll get this error.
ATM
Uncorrectable HEC- Header Error Control: By using the fifth octet in the ATM cell header, ATM equipment may check for an error and corrects the contents of the header. The check character is calculated using a CRC algorithm allowing a single bit error in the header to be corrected or multiple errors to be detected.
That should be correct if my memory serves me right. I hope this helps |

| reply to Jan Janowski That's a start! Thanks! Is there any information regarding SNR Margin and Attenuation other than you want S/N High, and Attenuation Low? I understand what CRC codes & errors are from digital video, and S/N ratio in video can never be high enough... If S/N suddenly drops, is it a sign of weakening sending or receiving equipment, or line quality, or both? I don't quite understand attenuation.... -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

| When the S/R drops on this screen it is a drop on the recieved signal on your side of the line. Otherwords the signal is loosing power as it reaches your modem, usually a line problem.
Attenuation is measured is dB, basically the longer the line the more power if needed to carry signaling across the pair. The higher the attenuation the longer the loop or the more interference there is on the loop adding to the overall loss |
