Well, it's pretty ugly, but it gets the job done. My home office setup has the following:

Firewall: Smoothwall 1.0
1 16port swtich
1 8 port switch
1 compaq wifi router
1 360GB reByte NAS server
1 FTP server
1 Dell NX1 Webserver
1 Dell NX1 fedora test box
1 P3 SuSE 9.1 box
1 Dell Precision 330 with dual monitors
5 misc. Junk boxes
1 mammoth HP 4C scanner
3 annoying cats

I'll be moving soon, can't wait to setup a new office...

What type of bandwith do you get with your cats?

main office cat
Actually, the cats hog the most bandwidth, so that drops the 100base connection on my local lan to 10mbps coax. Thankfully I can still jump on another subnet where my wifi is and roam free....

nice setup... good to see so many towers, yet so little exposed cableage

and I like the counters... looks like overkill construction, my favorite kind!

one question, aren't you concerned about the MDF getting damaged by a sweaty cold beverage or an accidental spill, or does it have a finish on it, just not showing up in the photos?

I know this is a sin to most, but I don't keep drinks by my machines since the kitchen is so close That way if one of 3 wild animals jumps up, there will be less chance off spillage... Yes, I for sure over built everything, but I had to make sure that if I ever run across some old SCSI cdrom towers or mammoth rack mount servers, I had a strong enough table. Plus it was so cheap to build and I since I used nuts and bolts I can take it apart and reuse it. But I think I will do things a little different when I move out in the summer... I really would like to build some meta racks, but wood works so well... Maybe I'll add a little paint next time. What do you all think? Go with more wood next time and be creative or find some metal stuff? Thanks in advance!

He could so kick Freeman's A$$
Oh, and I can not believe that no one spotted the "Duke Nukem 3D" mouse pad. Hehehe... So I took a better shot! And it's still in such pristine condition...

The little box is my Vonage VoIP adapter made by Linksys. It works great for office related duties!

I went with MDF as well when I made my "rack" for my computer equipment. Nice setup!

well, unless you got a metal shop handy, go with wood all the way

i've built nearly all my office & workshop furniture (shelves, desks, tables, benches) ... havent gotten into chairs or fine finish work like I'd use in my dining or living room

for a cheap cover on the mdf, you could get some 1/8" melamine laminate and just tack it on there instead of gluing it fully ... 4'x8' sheets are like $6 around here, water proof and tuff as nails

Agreed! Good call with the melamine laminate, I'll have to run to my local wood place and see what they have... Does anyone know of a site that has good building prints of shelves and computer related setups? thanks!

Heh, you have a lot of storage. Does it serve content to the web or is it local?

Dr. Radioactive:

I use my NAS box mostly for off-line storage and places to keep system images of my clients PC's. I also have it mapped through my FTP server so that if I am out of my office and need access I can get to it.

Euclid314:

Is that the chinese version of a Duke Nukem 3D mouse pad?

How big (on average) are the images you're storing? (just curious, sorry if it looks like I'm getting on your case - I'm not)

Guys:

the scanner I use to scan invoices from the many PC places that I do business for, that way I can look up invoices faster if a part dies months or years down the road... Just trying to make my office more "paperless" haha!

The images that I store are Linux .iso's and system images for off site server backup. I also have my business stuff on there and DV footage from the crazy movies that I make. Speaking of which, check out my web blog for my latest movie;

DV footage takes up sooooo much room and that was the #1 reason I built a large NAS box. But, I really could use a bigger one... someday. I also like to stream my backed up MP3 collection from my server to my other PC's and radio.
