SA 8000HD or DVR 6412

In Monmouth County, NJ, I think the only HD DVR box offered is the SA 8000HD DVR. I've been noticing on the board that this seems to be a minority with most people using the Motorola? 6412. I get the impression that more releases have come out for it upgrading its firmware. A few questions?

Is it a better box?

Is it available in central NJ?

I still don't have the I'guide. Is the reason that I don't the fact that I have the SA 8000 instead of the 6412?

IMO, the SA 8000HD or SA 8300HD is a much better box compared to the Motorola DVRs. SA has a more mature driver and firmware set than the Moto. Plus SA's first-run system works much better than Motorolas.

And yes, since you have a SA box, that is the reason why you don't have the i-Guide, but you really aren't missing much. SARA is more efficient and faster, just not a fruity looking.

Doesn't the SA 8300 also have native pass-through, something I wish the 6412 had?

With the proper firmware upgrade, yes the 8300 does and I think the 8000 also has that, while the Moto boxes don't.
