| Re: [video] Funny 911 Tape I don't blame them personally, the 911's and non-emergencies come to the same place, same people. Perhaps that's true where you are, and is generally true in areas serviced by Sheriff's departments that cover an entire county or metro area.
However, in areas like major cities or compact suburbs, 911 usually goes to a central dispatch area that works with multiple police and fire agencies. That's why it pisses me off when people call 911 for stupid shit.
Perhaps they should institute a secondary number like 912 for non-emergency calls so that it will be directed to their local police department without the fuss of having to look it up. It would be very easy to implement with current equipment. | |

I actually work in a PSAP answering 911. We service 9 police jurisdictions, 11 fire & medical jurisdictions and 9 city service jurisdictions. Each of the jurisdictions ranges in size and population but all are dense urban areas. Regardless of where you live, it's still the same, they are there to service you. | |

I know in Miami, FL they get routed to the same place, we have a 305-4-POLICE number which is non emergerncy, I have called it and been greeted with "911, What's your emergency" (to which I responded that I had called the non-emergency number and that I did not have an emergency.
