Latest Spybot S&D with today's definitions and yet dslreports.com IP continues to be tagged CoolWWWSearch.SmartSearch. Spybot has been doing this to my hosts file for over a year. What is it about 209.123.109.175?  |

For whatever it may be worth to anyone, this update did fix the cookie problem with Travelocity and I scanned after the update and did not have the problem that BCool is having. |

I just did a scan with the latest updates and nothing was found.
Of course, I ran CWS Shredder, first and nothing was found their, either. |

I wish I could figure out why (how technically?) Spybot points to www.dslreports.com at 209.123.109.175 in my hosts file as a redirected host via the CoolWWWSearch.SmartSearch scheme?! As I say, this particular result has come up over different versions of Spybot for what must be now more than a year. |

Spybot seems to be detecting the URL rather than the IP address. I ran a series of tests on the following hosts file entries:
209.123.109.175 thisisatest.com was not flagged by Spybot
209.123.109.175 www.dslreports.com was flagged as noted above
12.45.165.114 www.dslreports.com was also flagged as noted
127.0.0.1 www.dslreports.com was not flagged
I am using Spybot ver 1.4 beta |

Good observation. I modified my hosts to reflect only www 2.dslreports.com 209.123.109.175 and what do you know? Spybot does not detect redirected host. Cool. |

I have had so many problems with SpyBot and my HOSTS file I just disable it (HOSTS file) before I run SpyBot. |

bcool apprantly is using Spybot 1.3.1TX Spybot S&D beta versions 1.3.1, 1.3.1-TX and 1.3.2, were each internal test versions and contain debug code that may fail on your computer or possibly be incompatible with the upcoming publicly released main application update. I'll check out your link for the REAL current version. Well, I'll be! I now have the correct current version of Spybot which is Spybot S&D 1.3.0.12 with executable dated May 12, 2004. Incidentally, my original complaint about www.dslreports.com still stands even with this version. But at least I have a good version installed. Thanks! |
