DSL in Egypt

I want to change my ISP which is currently LinkDotNet. It proved to be the most unreliable ISP ever. I subscribed for a 512/128 but the actual download speed is under 20 because the line is always down; check my diary. Their technical support staff are terrible and they could not handle their routers, DSLAMs problems because they didn't have a proper training. I am paying for 512 while actually getting a dial up like service. After 3 months I will join a new ISP, please recommend one for me.

www.dslinegypt.com doesn't have their prices on the website. What are their rates for the SDSL and G.SHDSL packages?

Hi Guys,

I've tried LinkDotNet (used to be REALLY good, then around March 2005, they went completely down the drain), i then switched to Internetmisr (actually, NOT sure if Its InternetMisr OR InternetEgypt!!!)... and they're PRETTY bad... thinking of switching to another provider. Givem it took me like six weeks the finally switchover from Link.Net to Internet Misr, I really want to be sure I choose the right ISP. I read good things about DSLinEgpyt in this post, but their website doesnt generate a lot of confidence, seems quite amateurish. Any ideas on RayaDSL?.

@aucegypt.edu

I have heard that Egynet have oversubscribed and sold all their bandwidth - my isp uses egynet for their bandwidth - so as a result i am only getting half of what i have been allotted.

I am now considering a move to someone who does not have anything to do with egynet whatsoever - as everyone i know has been saying for years that egynet are among the worst organised of any egyptian internet provider.

Ok See, I think TE Data is the first ISP in Egypt as it owned by Telecomegypt the Only Egyptian Landlines Service Provider
so go ahead
my phone number is : 0104756450
by the way I am an old subsc. in TE DATA ADSL

which ISP to choose? it doesnt matter BECAUSE ALL OF THEM SUCK BIG TIME.

I tried link.net, noor, egynet and TEdata during the past year. I have 2 phone lines which allowed me to swich from one ISP to the other without having DSL "downtime".

all have the same problem: for the first 1-2 months the service appears to be good. as time passes by more and more users join the network and these f**king companies dont buy more international bandwidth. result: packet loss, high pings, in some of them dld speed down to half.

I join some game servers in europe and have a ping of 400-500 which is more than people logging in from Australia. The packet loss makes the games unplayable from screen freeze (lost packets need to get retransmitted).

Support in all those companies sucks. the stuff who replies doesnt even know how to interpret a tracert. I dont know what they are there for. they just ask is the modem on or off and such stupid things. and when u ask them if there is any upgrade in the int'l bandwidth scheduled the reply is : yes next week at most all is solved. and it goes on and on for months without any improvement. Even if you tell them you will cancel the subscribtion they don't seem to care.

ALL ARE THE SAME AND ALL ARE LIARS AND GREEDY AS***LES. If you want decent internet connection you have to go live in another country.

Re: DSL in Egypt

I do agree with you. For three years i subscribe with Tedata. Dont ask them any technical support.. they dont know anything except wasting your time.

Over all ISP in Egypt, Tedata is more good than the others. But dont think it's best one. It's just the best among the sucks ISP.

I'm also a subscriber with TEData 512/128..they used to bee good.

Now, they have done some changes and my connection is fucked up. I can no longer achieve high download speeds in Bittorrent because of some "transparent proxy" shit.

I'm considering changing them but I'm unsure whether other ISPs also apply transparent proxies.

Anyone has an idea?
Please check your connection from the website below and tell me (with your ISP name as well)

i'm subscribed at link.dotnet aswell and i have the same problem with the pings and download rates as well i can never play a game or listen to any streaming radio except at times from 6:00 a.m to 11:00a.m that's when the pings are really down (to servers in europe it would reach 120 ms which is great) any other time it would reach as high as 500 ms and packets are lost all the time so it becomes so fucking laggy !i've called them hundreds of times and every damn time they try to convince me that i have some shit virus or spyware that is eating up my bandwidth ,last time they sent someone to my house which he ended up with a smart ass idea of changing my entire phone line !
anyway i heard NILEONLINE is not a bad isp and i'm thinking of switching to them very soon ,what made me a little comfertable with them is that when i called them for inquiries on subscribtion fees and stuff like that they told me that they currently are not accepting any more clients untill they finish setting up thier new equipment or something fo the new international bandwidth that they recently purchased ,not like all the other greedy fucking isps that keep accepting any number of customers regardless of thier capabilities to provide enough bandwidth to all

Re: DSL in Egypt

I use Link.net 256/64 kbps and at first 2 weeks the download spees is 30 kbps but after they end the download get to 25 then 20 then 15 then 10 then 5
and 1 day it gets 900 byte

i asked them why???? they answerd me that there is a virus and i am sure 100% no virus
but after calling them 10000 time they gave me speed 25 kb/sc
and now it is 15-20 kbs

about pings .... my ping in games is 400ms some times and sometimes 250ms
and rarely 200 ms
while other people in other countries have 100 ms

any way not bad ISP

and prices in other countries 256kb/64 in egypt equal to 4mbs /325kbs in italy for example

about proxy ... re congif your modem (router)

Re: DSL in Egypt

My Friends,
Yesterday I was in City Stars [Nasr city] and I found link inside Virgin Mega stor. and I submitted a formal complaint for my DSL subscription and the bad performance.

After I left the place I found in the same floor a Booth for Raya Selling DSL and the people there were very friendly and the provided me with a wide range of solutions for chosing between speeds and using more than one speed insted of sticking to only 256 or 512, You can mix between speed.

I registered with them and I am Cancelling my Link subscription.

How much will you pay for those "mixed" speeds?

i am still with egynet using 1024/256KB.
and only getting 60~70KB download speed max. while i was getting 100~110 at begain of this year..and getting very high ping in games while poeple having the same connection as me around the world getting less than 50ms in games while i get 200~300ms ..

Having the same speed problem with Menanet, my current Latency (Ping) is as high as 15000 ms, which is simply ridiculous. My assumed bandwidth of 1024/384 ended up in 44/57 actual speed.
Still cant find someone recommending an ISP, so i'm assuming that the problem is Country-wide, accordingly it has to be related to the main line(s) (backbones), or to TelecomEgypt.
I can't believe that all these big names are willingly sacrificing their reputation for an extra dollar!!

Has anybody had any problems with Soficom? I was thinking of subscribing to them but wondered if they were okay.

Nile online looks professional but I haven't had a reply to my email - do they only deal with businesses?

Sadly, Egypt is rife with ignorance and dishonesty. People will simply lie rather than admit that they don't know and don't care. Almost everything is like this here. It's not like this elsewhere in the Arab world. The mother of civilization is a lazy bi*ch. Anyway, just wanted to report that I use LinkDotNet and am similarly getting ripped off. I subscribed to a 512 line but it was never that. Consistently I was getting speeds around the same as a 56k modem. I even tested it against simply dialing up. I forwarded speed results to the company and got the same BS others have gotten about the problems being sorted out next week, "within days," etc. etc. What is so outrageous is how expensive DSL is in Egypt compared to elsewhere. I pay one third more than a friend in the UK and he gets three times the speeds I get. This is simply Egypt: it's rip off place, rife with corruption and a complete lack of business ethics or efficiency.

One interesting thing to note. LinkDotNet offered to double my connection speed for the next three months because I told them I was going to look elsewhere. Strangely, I'm allocated Up/Down (Kbit/sec) 736 / 3584, but I get only 512Kbps download and 126Kbps upload on online speed tests, which is what I might otherwise expect from my original 128 / 512 allocation. I don't know if there is some mistake here, on my part or theirs, and I didn't really test the connection much yet (it doesn't appear any faster and has been hanging a lot recently), but if at the end of the three months they call to say my connection is reverting to the sh*t I had before I will tell them where to get off.

Bottom line, shared connection or not, subscribers should more or less get average speeds around those THEY PAY FOR. Egyptian companies would go bust in the West because consumers have rights there. Here, we just get fleeced.
