| Re: Vonage Forums ksmith501,
IMHO it was a legitimate question from someone that is genuinely interested in why an American would want to live in Mexico...

How about we rephrase? If Mexico is nice enough that someone with wealth would want to retire there, why are people leaving in droves?

You are correct, maybe he should check his facts - he might have exagerated a little by saying "millions". But by merely stating what his assumptions are should not be cause for alarm... -- PowerEdge 1600SC, Dual 2.8 Xeons, 512 Ram, WinXP Pro _SP2, Office Pro 2003, G450 Dual Head DVI PCI, Extigy (USB), Adobe Premier 6.5

Think about it, there is probably a MILLION/YEAR who come in illegally!
We need to put an end to this, that corrupt country is ruining America.

Now, people that do not understand Mexican reality are always eager to give an opinion, people that don't understand economics are the same... but the truth is a lot more complex and I don't think is topic for a broadband forum.

| TIME Magazine, Sept 20, 2004, pegged it at 15,000,000 illegal aliens, with approximately 3,000,000 illegal aliens crossing the U.S. Border per year. That number included the ones who are caught (the ones we Know about), and added in the estimated number of ones who aren't caught (the ones we don't know about, but we know we miss a lot).
Anyway, there's nothing wrong with asking why someone would want to retire to Mexico. There are a lot nicer places in the world, and 3,000,000 Mexicans per year can't be wrong!

| Telmex customers unhappy with the slowdown affecting their Vonage VoIP won't be happy switching to Satellite. I installed a DirecWay system in Dec 2004 and signed up for a Vonage-type service (iconnecthere.com) and it simply wouldn't work. It turned out that DirecWays UPLOAD speeds are horrible, at times as low as 19k, but never higher than dialup. I ended up subscribing to Crystal Voice, which is cheap, but outgoing only and the delay is annoying at best. | |
