I can't say for sure about the 1000. I got an Inspiron 600m in February and ran across the restore instructions in the user's manual. You press CTRL+F11 at boot to initiate it, and it restores from a hidden partition on the hard drive.

I went to my laptop and did a screen capture with the full instructions (attached). You might want to double check Dell's site to see if the same procedure applies to the 1000. Good luck!

I thought that the key was f10 or f11, but I would have never guessed that you would have had to press the ctrl key also to activate it. thanks again -- You can't live for today when you've got to study for Tomorrow.
