said by Anav :Pork chop? LOL At this rate the Army may have to actively recruit gay soldiers......, that pork chop would have been appealing as chopped liver Somehow, judging by a few Gay friends I have, don't think if the Army actively recruited Gay men it would solve the problem. And since HIV is easier to pass around during unprotected sex during homosexual encounters, then woman to man in heterosexual situations, it may make things worse. The points I have stated are medical fact, before anyone goes accusing me of harboring hatred for gay men. -- Puberty is a phase...10 years of rejection is a lifestyle! |

said by TKJunkMail :» www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/WinnipegS···sun.htmlJennifer Murphy is no femme fatale and portraying her as a promiscuous AIDS carrier bent on taking victims is unfair, says her sister. "My sister is a very, very good woman, and she would never ever do anything to hurt anybody," Amanda Murphy said in an interview with the Toronto Star from her home in St. John's.
"She's been living with AIDS for 14 years and if she wanted to start spreading the HIV virus she would have done it years ago."
Which is exactly why Jennifer told all her sex partners that she has HIV/AIDS (not sure how long she's been full-blown). I'm sure Amanda can easily put herself in the shoes of the family members of those affected, after all, 14 years ago she had to do the same thing, fact is, Jennifer could have any number of motives, spreading her pain to others is just one of them (and if she told her partners, there goes her nookie, certainly would make me say thanks but no thanks). It's a black and white case really, Did Jennifer engage in unprotected sex with SoldierX? And did she tell him she has HIV? Yes, if she wanted to deliberately infect men with HIV, she could have done it years ago, but here is a single woman sleeping around an Armed forces base, may as well tie a pork chop around her neck and throw her over the fence at the SPCA. -- Puberty is a phase...10 years of rejection is a lifestyle! |

| reply to Viggen93 While I was enlisted, granted, I knew the importance of protecting myself against STD's, something I learned in high school, but in some cases, people never learn the lesson until they escape narrowly or actually get something nasty.
Condoms are plentiful for Canadian Forces soldiers, I remember the field hospitals and ambulances having ample supplies, and handing them out when the medics were checking your feet (I was an Infantryman, I didn't go anywhere unless it was in combat boots). -- Puberty is a phase...10 years of rejection is a lifestyle! |

| reply to Viggen93 If you were never shown a video about the importance of using condoms, you had to have been through lectures on the subject. All soldiers since the Korean Conflict have been regularly taught the importance of safe sex and the spread of STD's. Those soldiers involved not only had to have sat through lectures but had the availability of free condoms. It doesn't sound like anyone had a gun to their head. |

| reply to TKJunkMail Rough sex could cause breakage (and I really mean this, so I have been able to conclude with friends who are regularly able to break them). I think the terrible thing about this case is that Jennifer Murphy (HIV+ woman, I see no need to hide her identity, unlike the Government) was infected at 18 by a man who knew he had HIV but never told her.
Apparently, she just showed up six weeks prior at CFB Borden and making advances on Soldiers, very rarely going home alone. I feel fortunate that while I was based at Borden, I never had the urge to hop into bed with any piece of skirt that presented itself (though it may have had more to do with me being incredibly shy). Come to think of it, I was never shown any videos about the importance of using condoms while I was in the Army, it was something I just knew. |

The reason they are not 100% effective is because of breakage. If they don't break, 0% risk of pregnancy or HIV. Not entirely true, spillage and leak out the top apparently can happen. We are talking a tiny weeny (get it.. HAH!) percentage though. -- Hail to the Nipple-Titan. |

No the reason is the unchecked abuse, and rape of women, the aids stds are just byproducts of a systemic culture of sexual assault. vaginal tearing is the #1 rape way that it would get into the blood stream.
anything thicker then spit is able to transfer easily(excluding mucus) but enough spit can transfer it(someone ballparked it at 10liters) |

| reply to lawrence171 said by lawrence171 :how do you, exactly, use a condum correctly? I was under the catholic system, so, sex-ed wasn't taught in Grade 9. Don't u just put it on, and start doing? Well, it isn't Rocket Surgery, but it's important to make sure no air is trapped in the reservoir tip when rolling it on. Correctly sized is another important thing, although probably not an issue for most. Too large a condom could technically increase the risk of it falling off and too small a condom increases breakage risk as the Latex, or Polyurethane, etc.. is stretched too much. Or so I've heard. I'm saving myself for marriage.
said by xanthuos :"Also, they are not 100% effective in preventing the spread of HIV. The one positive thing these soldiers have going for them is that the rate of transmissions from an infected female to a male is much lower than the opposite situation." True. One of the main reasons for this is that the virus requires direct entry to the bloodstream, so even if a condom breaks or in unprotected sex, a man (or woman) would require a point of entry into the bloodstream like a cut or scrape, open sore..etc.
The usual cause for this to occur in a man or woman, I understand, is having another type of VD. | reply to TKJunkMail I use condoms regularly and "religiously" (pun intended?) and have still had some break. Also, they are not 100% effective in preventing the spread of HIV. The one positive thing these soldiers have going for them is that the rate of transmissions from an infected female to a male is much lower than the opposite situation. Also, I recommend that anyone who engages in any kind of behavior which can spread HIV/AIDS be tested every 6 months, as that's the threshold for how long it can take for antibodies to be detected. Other STDs, get tested for regularly. |
