Re: [XP Home] SP2 incompatible with Avast! and Outpost Firewall

Also, the following link may help when trying to troubleshoot a Stop Error:

»mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/bsod.php

Did you notice a driver or file named on the Blue Screen?

That driver or file would be the source of the BSOD, and may be contributing to the cause of the BSOD.

If no driver or file was named on the Blue Screen, you could consider uploading a minidump file from one of the crashes (located in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder), and someone with debugging tools could take a look at it, and try to determine the "source" of the Stop Error.

Re: [XP Home] SP2 incompatible with Avast! and Out

I do'nt know if this is helpful, but the full message was:
"STOP¨:0x000000D1 (0x7199DF52,0x00000002,0x7199DF52) DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL3
I ca'nt imagine really any driver involved in the problem.
Instead, I realize that I used Norton AV and I uninstalled it before loading and installing Avast AV. So, Norton has a very bad reputation as for the traces it puts in the registry very difficult to delete.
My idea now is to clean registry of every remembrance of Norton and try once more to launch Avast.
Am I right so far?

For some reason Avast and/or Outpost appear to clash with your system.

If a file is identified in the crash, especially a third party driver, that may help pinpoint why this is occurring.

The problem may be with a driver already on your system. Or a clash between drivers.

Do you recall when the problem started? Did it coincide with any change to your system?

Did the BSOD's occur when you just had NAV?
