1 edit | [XP Home] Cannot Drag and Drop
I have lost the ability to drag and drop in general... in Windows XP Home w/ SP2...
I have tried a variety of options I have found Googling.. Ran a registry fix from Kelly's Korner Have done a few different restore points... etc.
One that can't seem to try is a repair/restore of IE that is suggested in one of the Googlings... I have at least tried for the »The Broadband Reports Windows XP FAQ »Can I Restore Internet Explorer? Per: modify the following Registry Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\ACTIVE SETUP\INSTALL COMPONENTS\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
Locate IsInstalled, double click on IsInstalled-----change value from 1 to 0
But the Locate IsInstalled is not listed in that key... ???
If I try to drag anything they basically open or launch..
I have run virus scans, and spyware apps... and nothing is coming up...
any suggestions? -- Got a VAIO? Visit the Village: »www.vaiovillage.com |

1 edit | Hi steve1a.
When did this issue start occurring? What have you installed/uninstalled, right before the issue occurrence? Any minor/major tweaks done?
Given this a try?

| reply to steve1a Really no significant changes installs/uninstalls This just popped up... I did a few restores back to about a week or so ago and no changes... the XP repair is difficult because the system has just the restore type partition thingy which is limiting and isn't slipped streamed with SP2... I tried a reinstall of SP2 but that didn't help... The IE restore sounds like a potential but I can't do it the way that is outlined because of the forementioned key change not being present... -- Got a VAIO? Visit the Village:»www.vaiovillage.com |

2 edits | I am using the single click but I have always had that setting with no problems...
I am using a Logitech MX1000 Laser Mouse... but again that has been working fine an I have made no adjustments to the settings that I have been using there for months...
I do have the hot fix 890047 that was mentioned in the link in the last post but it looks like it was installed on 1/21/05... and this just started... AND I'm not seeing where to uninstall this hot fix.... it is not listed in the add/remove.... where else or how can I uninstall it?
Also per the : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\ACTIVE SETUP\INSTALL COMPONENTS\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
Locate IsInstalled, double click on IsInstalled-----change value from 1 to 0
the IsInstalled entry is not listed so I have nothing available to change the value to try the IE restore per the suggested guidelines.
EDIT: Duh... so I tick the show updates in the add/remove to find the hotfix and uninstalled it... lotsa warnings ignored... rebooted and received a message that IE6 had been removed.... check the above registry and the IsInstalled is back with a "0"... however IE6 is installed version 6.0.2900.2180xpsp2 and working.... and the drag and drop problem is still happening....
Don't know where to go next.... uninstall reinstall SP2 ? -- Got a VAIO? Visit the Village: »www.vaiovillage.com |
