I say let them play the game how they want to. If they wanna shake hands or whatever fine, but I hardly think players should feel pressured to.

That's true, but the fact that they want to make them shake hands just because it is a rivalry doesn't seem like a good enough reason. It makes sense in hockey because it is a tradition, but there is little reason to implement it into baseball now.

I've been to dozens of hockey games, and have played the sport myself for over 15 years.
Shaking hands meant something to me. I am sure it meant something to many of the other players as well.
Even if its an old "custom", its still nice.

Well does the fact that they shake hands really mean anything? They only shake because it is the custom. Whether they like each other or not they have to do it.

I think that's really stupid. It's not like shaking hands would mean anything. It's just promoting fake sportsmanship, and that does nothign for the game.

Pretty nice article about the suggestion made by kids to have the sox and yankees shake hands before their games.
It would be purely cosmetic, but a nice gesture nonetheless.
