| The danger of linking to images you don't own
Some bozo is selling real estate on eBay, and rather than use actual pictures of the property, he chose random images of beautiful places from elsewhere (Guam, Minnesota, etc.).
One of them was on nil  's webserver, who found an odd entry in her referrer logs. The guy was (a) stealing bandwidth by linking to her image, (b) misappropriating her copyrighted image for commercial gain, and (c) badly misrepresenting the property in question.
So yesterday she used mod_rewrite to replace the image of a beautiful lake with a trash-strewn hillside, as well as sent email to eBay asserting her copyright. Nothing happened, so she put up a different image.

My friend used to post music on a forum. When looking at his log, he realized he had more than 200 hits on one song. He found out that a 15 year old girl had actually put that song (something by Makai, don't remember the name) as the BACKGROUND MUSIC of her blog... So he proceeded to change the file name and make a nice symlink to a Dimmu Borgir (a pretty hardcore heavy metal band) song.
Anyway, let me tell you, it was pretty funny.

Rats. He changed it before I was able to see it. Of course, this begs the question: Who buys land via eBay? I've bid on and bought many items via eBay (photographic equipment, CDs, electronics), but never anything as high priced as land. I guess a sucker really is born every minute.
