Re: SBC lowers pricing to $19.95 w/o bundling LD

Called 877-870-9852, gave her my BTN and told her I was an existing subscriber, wanted to re-rate and sign up for a one year contract. She asked for permission to see my records and I said yes.

She told me I couldn't get my existing grandfathered package (1.5/256) at anything other than the present $59.95/mo. She told me that if I qualified, I could have the 1.5-3.0/384 at $29.95, cheaper and faster in every respect. I asked her to check my line. (SBC techs here have previously told me it wouldn't go faster.)

She said I qualified. I said sign me up. She came back and told me my new contract would run 4Apr2005 through 4Apr2006.

Total time: about 10 minutes on a Monday morning.
DSL speed: will be at or above existing speed, depending on whether her test is more accurate than the guys here.
Price: drops to 50% of current rate.

Satisfied customer: Priceless

Maybe I wrote/spoke too soon. 'tis now the day after the purported upgrade to Pro, and after completely unplugging the modem for two minutes and then reconnecting everything, the only difference is that my upload is now 139 instead of the original 240. No increase to the download.

This happen to anybody else?

Yes, I ran into the same problem. Post in SBCDirect and they will fix things.

Thanks for the advice. I posted and got a response, but I don't know how to read it. S/he said my profile only supported 2M and then s/he included a bunch of numbers for 2M and 2.5M, all of which were bigger numbers than I'm used to seeing.

I have replied to that post and asked him/her if those numbers meant I couldn't have the "Pro" package, and if so, if I could at least get my old speed back (I was rock-solid 1300/240 for the last N months and now I'm 1200/139).
