| Looks like someone at Packet8 broke our peering relationship.
This may have been an unintended mistake on their part, but at the moment there isn't anyone we have found yet on their side who will address this.
Please reach out to their customer support and make sure they know this is something that they should address.
Thanks. |

I get nothing when calling from P8 to FWD, and a busy when going from FWD to P8. I found this handy for a long time and wish it worked again. What I'd REALLY like to see work again... is the VoicePulse to FWD peering! |

| reply to maygb2000 This may be a topic for another thread, but, what I don't understand is why is it so hard to keep peering between the VoIP vendors operating? FWD peering to commercial VoIP is not very stable at all and tends to go out weeks at a time. I can't understand why it can't be fixed in 5 minutes. -- "Don't steal. | reply to maygb2000 Just Musing here, but could not Peering be easily abused? For example, say I was in India and needed to call a USA number and I had a buddy over here who used P8. All the buddy would have to do is forward his P8 number to the number I wanted to call and I could call using FWD. Maybe the abuse issue is why the commercial VoIP vendors are not to enthusiastic about keeping it going. |

| I was under the impression that it really doesn't cost them anything to complete a call over the peering link. Maybe they don't make anything using it either. I don't know that could be it. -- "Don't steal. The government hates competition." |

Neither he nor the rep I spoke with this morning knew what FWD is. I told them to read the Packet8 FAQ. They will get back to me within 48 hours. I was unable to call the Packet8 800 support number from FWD. |

1 edit | reply to jeffpulver FWD continues to be the industry leader in peering agreements between IP service providers. At the moment we have more than 125 agreements of record.
Some of our peering parters change their proxy IP addresses without notice, so until this is noticed, an outage happens. Those peering partners who care about their third-party relationships give notice in advance of their network changes.
At FWD we need to deal with both kinds of partners. |

Maybe they don't make anything using it either. I don't know that could be it. It is when a Packet8 user dial a US or Canadian number to connect a friend using FWD is what cost Packet8, I said that even before the peering started and I didn't expect that Packet8 will approve the peering, I think they had in mind to keep the peering for short time only to increase their customer base, I am a part of that increase as I selected Packet8 over Lingo because of the peering with FWD, too bad from Packet8 to think this way.
The question now is for Jeff, will FWD keep accepting Packet8 incoming calls or will treat Packet8 the same way? |

| It takes too long to reprogram call forwarding and you would have to give up access to your account to do anything serious. I can't believe that someone would make a big exploit of this, but... Vonage did disconnected FWD because this was happening. With P8, someone would have the opportunity to ring up charges. |

1 edit | reply to maygb2000 Looks like something's happening w/ this issue. When attempting to dial a P8 # from FWD, instead of getting the fast busy signal of late, the connection now rings. What it's ringing is another question though, for it doesn't ring the actual 2 different P8 numbers I tried.
Hopefully Jeff Pulver or somebody from P8 will comment further on this matter.
