| [Milestone] Got a new job!
That's right! Mr Weather will be moving on to greener pastures in about a month.
In case anyone's interested here's the Coles' notes version:
Had meeting with current bosses before Christmas 2004; due to "organizational changes" told to expect to be let go sometime during 2005; started job searching in January 2005, landed some interviews and BANG was recently offered a position at an Intellectual Property firm.
As you can tell I'm pleased as punch! My current place is very happy for me and wishes me the best. I still have some stuff to wrap up but come the end of April I'm outta here!!!
It'll be a big change for me. No more lab work but that's fine since I've grown tired of it. I'm looking forward to doing something completely different.
Anyway a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders. -- "It's all coming down!!" - Mike Holmes |

| Thanks all for the kind words!
said by donoreo :You are going to work for Monty Python? Way to go! Any openings? 'Fraid not. It's a smallish firm and most of the other employees have been there literally forever. I lucked out when this position opened up. I'll be involved in patent filing and research to support new drug applications.
And yes, job hunting does seem to be more effective when you're working. I guess the stench of desperation isn't quite as potent yet. -- "It's all coming down!!" - Mike Holmes |

Oh well, worth a shot Sounds interesting, do you have to make sure that a new drug is something you can patent (i.e. does not already violate existing ones?) -- I cannot deny anything I did not say |

| Yes that's the basic idea. Not sure how much of that I'll do at first but it is a substantial portion of the firm's business.
Ultimately I want to get my "Registered Patent Agent" designation. But to do that I need to work for at least 18 months and write four exams (where the pass rate is around 10-15% ) -- "It's all coming down!!" - Mike Holmes |

| Thanks! Yeah, I know. The old rules used to be you had to pass ALL four exams in order to get the designation. If you failed even one you had to start all over again.
The rules changed recently and now you can carry forward any exams you passed and only do the ones you failed.
Hopefully those rules will be in effect when my time comes. -- "It's all coming down!!" - Mike Holmes |
