cable modem..phone rings

Its been a week since i had rr installed. I also have aol broadband because of it. While surfing, I recieved a phone call and at the same time I thought I heard however briefly the ring coming either over my computer speaker or cable modem. It stops as I proceed to talk. The other day, when the phone rang, a fax message started to appear on the screen, again till I picked up the phone. it was a friend and she was not sending me a fax. i don't have my fax "on", so why would this happen? BTE, the phone is cordless and in the other room away from the computer. Of course, prior to install rr, I did have dial up service with aol.

Do you still have your phone line plugged into your computer's modem? I'd bet $100 that's what's going on. If so, simply unplugging it is the easiest and quickest route. If for some reason you wish to keep it plugged in so it's available for dial-up backup, I'm sure there's a way of turning off that feature within the AOL software. Perhaps you could call AOL tech support (ROFL) and ask them how.

Absolutely.
