Broadcom WLAN Driver & Utility v.3.70.22.0

Although these files are dated Oct 20 2004 for both the Utility and XP Driver set... HP seems to just now have released them to the general public! You can grab these files from here: »h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/se···broadcom

The files you're looking for specifically mention v.3.70.22.0 for both the driver and utility and the HP exes are: SP29361.exe (3.31MB) and SP29362.exe (10.4MB)

I might add that these drivers and utility software have solved all my WRT54GS/WMP54GS/WPC54GS problems. They also support speedbooster "speeds". Give them a try and hopefully you won't regret it. Installation is rather simple - but do make sure to REMOVE all LINKSYS utilities, old Linksys Drivers (replace them with the ones found in the Broadcom package: choose Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN) and finally install the utility. Enjoy.

PS - If anyone knows of a more-recent revision... do let us know and possibly point to a download location. Thanks.

Ah, I wish I had known about this two days ago, when I was beating my head against the wall trying to get WPA going on my WMP54GS. Oh well, at least I have something that works now.

It would make consumers' lives so much easier if OEM arrangements weren't so restrictive. If the product documentation would just state explicitly "this product is based on XX chipset/design/etc. and you can go to XX's web site for the latest drivers." And of course, the actual hardware provider has to cooperate too, by making their drivers/utilities easily locatable. Even if they plaster disclaimers all over their docs and don't provider end-user support, it would still be better than the hoops we have to jump through today just to get proper drivers for products we've paid for.

Very true. I often use PCI Latency Tool 2.3 and/or Unknown Device Identifier 4.0 to discover the "true" nature of my and my customers' hardware. Very useful tools - might I add.

Highlandsun - do let me know if these Broadcom drivers helped you out - how you find them and if you manage to find a more recent release (I'm not sure if that is currently possible).

Again - these Broadcom drivers will support MOST Linksys Wireless-G, Wireless-GS and some Wireless-B products. For specific supported chipsets - refer to the documentation included with these drivers and/or try to install them in place of your current ones - see if they'll work.

HP mentions such compatibility:
Broadcom 54g MaxPerformance 802.11g Adapter
- Broadcom 802.11b Adapter
- Broadcom 802.11b/g Adapter
- Broadcom 802.11a/b/g Adapter
- HP Wireless LAN 54g WL450 Adapter

Broadcom WLAN Network Adapters User Interface for Windows XP version 4.00 A (18 Feb 05) UPDATE: Utility & Driver

This package contains the Broadcom WLAN Utility, Version 3.100.56.0, for Microsoft Windows XP for the following network adapters in the listed notebook models:
- Broadcom 54g MaxPerformance 802.11g Adapter
- Broadcom 802.11b Adapter
- Broadcom 802.11b/g Adapter
- Broadcom 802.11a/b/g Adapter
- HP Wireless LAN 54g WL450 Adapter

Enhancements
* Provides Broadcom WLAN utility user interface, version 3.100.56.0, for use with Broadcom WLAN Networks Adapter Driver (UPDATE: includes 3.100.46.0 (WHQL) built and 3.100.56.0 (non-WHQL))
* Adds new user interface.
* Adds support for Cisco Compatible Extensions V3.0 features.
* Provides support for both pre-logon connections and persistent connections.

Prerequisites
* SoftPaq SP29361, "Broadcom WLAN Network Adapters Driver for Windows XP," Version 3.70.22.0 must be installed.

PS - I can't seem to be able to install these drivers using a device ID of "Broadcom 54g MaxPerformance 802.11g Adapter". It never shows up when upgrading the driver. Any solutions? Other than that - all good, encryption, no connection loss, good performance, better signal levels, etc.

The new Utility 3.100.56.0 is much different from the previous release however upon extracting this 4.00A HP archive (17.3MB) I realized that it included BOTH the Utility and (HP typo) new Broadcom drivers!

The inf files point to two different driver revisions: 3.100.46.0 (WHQL) built and 3.100.56.0 (non-WHQL). Strangely enough no matter what I try, I can't install the 3.100.56.0 driver (Windows reports a "strange inf format") whereas the 3.100.46.0 installs just fine. There are also new settings: 1. WME Enabled/Disabled 2. WZC Managed Ethernet Enabled/Disabled

If anyone can modify the inf file to allow for installing the 3.100.56.0 - please let us know and possibly post a link to a modified file. Alt. PM me and email it to me so that I may host it.
