woodwardXMission BroadbandVIP join:2000-12-28 Salt Lake City, UT | reply to woodward Followup conversations with Qwest reps tell me that they're actually planning three tiers based on qualification: 3MB, 5MB and 7MB.
No word on Interleave, yet. |

You're welcome to check my history on this forum. I have been posting such announcements for years, and I assure you they are always accurate. |

| Woodward's word is good, and as a Qwest partner, he's often an early source of news. This is, indeed, welcome news.
It looks like Qwest is going to try to come in under the standard cable pricing for these speed levels.
I would suspect that there will not be an install charge to upgrade existing customers, but I may be wrong. |

If it's really coming out in May (and they manage to roll it out to a remote DSLAM like mine), then that will make my decision to drop my cable company a hell of a lot easier. -- The views expressed herein are not necessarily those of anyone else, including the poster. If you want to see my views, look at »blog.phoneboy.com |

Speed change is usually $10, but there's already an announced "free speed change" for this coming quarter (starting April 10). It doesn't specify the Premiere service yet, but I'd assume it will be included. IIRC, migrating to 1.5 when it was new was free, too. |

drslashGoya AsmaPremium join:2002-02-18 Marion, IA | reply to woodward The $38 - $43 price would be a direct assault on Mediacom in my area. If I qualify for anything over 3Mb/256, I will definitely consider this and most likely hookup and try it out. -- Save water...drink beer! |

PixelFreakInnocent Until Proven Guilty join:2001-02-21 Bremerton, WA | reply to woodward Woodward, thanks again for giving us the inside skinny.
I am excited for the raised speeds. I tried to call Comcast to get them to "pricematch" with DSL, but their line was they are "apples and oranges" because of the speed differences, and therefore would not pricematch.
This is welcome news indeed, as they will now be forced to recognize that it isn't really "apples and oranges" when comparing the two services (although the technical differences are of course QUITE different).
Now, if only we had some good news about interleave adjustments on a per-user basis. After all, they do it for their VDSL customers.
Here's to hoping! PixelFreak |

Also, the announce reads as though there's a move to a shared-node topology ala cable modem. Is this the case as well? |
