| [iO] Digital Cablevision general quesitons
I have a few questions I'm hoping someone here can help me with:
1) Do I need a new TV to watch it or will it feed in to my old analog set with a converter or something?
2) How would I record a show digitally? Would I need a TiVo or something?
3) Does it still come through the coaxial or is different wiring needed?
4) Could I still record to my VCR for general recording?
Thanks -- I'm a woman by the way . |

| said by Sweet Witch :1) Do I need a new TV to watch it or will it feed in to my old analog set with a converter or something? Any TV is fine.
said by Sweet Witch :2) How would I record a show digitally? Would I need a TiVo or something? You can record a show on your VCR or a Tivo or the SA8300 set-top box/DVR unit from Cablevision.
said by Sweet Witch :3) Does it still come through the coaxial or is different wiring needed? Same as it always is. No changes on your end should be required.
said by Sweet Witch :4) Could I still record to my VCR for general recording? Yes. Though doing some connection re-writing might be necessary depending on what you want to do. With a set-top box, only 1 channel comes out of it. Your TV (or VCR) stays on channel 3. If you want to record whatever is coming out of the set-top box, then you put your VCR between it and the TV (unless you're connecting to the TV via a non-coax connection). If you split the cable before the set-top box and have 1 go to the box and the other to the VCR, you use the VCR as you always did, but you can't record the digital channels that you'd only get with the set-top box.

2) How would I record a show digitally? Would I need a TiVo or something? You can use a TiVo, or you can request a DVR from Cablevision.
3) Does it still come through the coaxial or is different wiring needed? You can use your existing coaxial cable. No special wiring needed.
4) Could I still record to my VCR for general recording? Yes, with either the standaed digital box or the DVR, you can still record onto your VCR. |

If you use a Tivo, the iO box will convert the signal to analog, and then the Tivo will convert it back to digital in order to record it. If you use Cablevision's DVR, the iO stream will be recorded digitally, with no conversions prior to recording. |
