Indeed, using NetBEUI instead of NetBIOS/TcpIP has allowed me to stop all ports from listening except 445; that is still showing as stealthed behind my router/ZAP combination. But would like some further tips on "limiting [access to 445] to trusted hosts and/or networks." Just to make sure.

Great explanation, and, though not addressing it in much detail, another good argument for NetBEUI.
