Re: turning off Windows FW when running ZAP

Did you click OK?

If you have ZAP up and active you will be fine.

But they don't play nice running together.

Oh, yes the bird clicked 'yes', it is the only way to display the setting.
Am I missing something?
The green 'on' should change, right?

Re: turning off Windows FW when running ZAP

No it will not change.

See the little arrows on the other side of the green dot click on it to expand and it will show what firewall is active.

Re: turning off Windows FW when running ZAP

Well I don't know what your doing there.

After turning off MSFW and turning on ZAP you should see this.

Re: turning off Windows FW when running ZAP

Mine does the same thing, it says I have a working firewall but does NOT identify it by name. Curious tho, I wonder if it only "recognizes" Pro and not the Free version?

Is that ZAP you have version 5.5.062.004 or greater?

That was the version where they fixed the Firewall/AV Status issue.

Re: turning off Windows FW when running ZAP

Have you run a registry/system cleaner to see if it may be some bread crumb driver or the like messing this up?

Also you should be safe anyway. It is just a glitch with MSC not reading something right at the moment.

ZAP and your D-Link should have all the bases covered now. They work well together. That is what i have on my XP here too.

OK, good enough is just not acceptable.
This is not "government" work.
It has to be right.

Re: turning off Windows FW when running ZAP

Well about a year ago I dumped a few tools and use one that was doing the job of about 3.

I use only default settings too.

I have never had a problem with it and it cleans up allot of the crap!!

Out of all the Freeware tools I would put it somewhere close to or at the top.

A clean computer is more secure IMHO

The MS support engineer is asking if the order of installation on your PC was SP2 first or ZAP first?

I use Zone Alarm free and the Security Centre recognizes it....it says "ZoneAlarm Firewall is currently on".

It hard to tell what's what from the screen capture that you posted. You can double click it to set it to manual, auto or disable.

Re: turning off Windows FW when running ZAP

In ZAP check the firewall tab-> Advanced and make sure that "Disable Windows Firewall' is checked. You should not have to turn off the Windows firewall service manually - ZAP should do it for you and if ZAP goes down for some reason, Windows firewall automatically restarts.
